One of the benefits of installing Azure Arc is ESUs are billed monthly & you can turn off ESUs at any time.

For example:
❌ In the past, customers had to pay for a full 12 months of ESUs per server by buying a which is generally the same cost as the full WS license.

✅ Now if you upgrade your WS2012 svr or move it to Azure 2 months later & no longer need ESUs, you can 'turn off' ESUs on those servers via Azure Arc & only pay for a 2 months.

Only in cases where a WS2012 svr cannot connect to Azure Arc, may one request an exception - which may not be granted.

Steps:
1. Document why your WS2012 svrs can't connect to Azure Arc.
2. Submit the scenario to your Microsoft Commercial Exec to escalate. If you don't know who that is, try your LAR.
3. If approved, you will pay for a full 1yr of ESUs for each server, roughly the same as the svr license.
4. The MAK key is in the M365 Admin Center in 3 days.
