Usually peopel are supposed to do that.

But corporates and even startups still burn money for new PC and Licenses💀

And still some of those companies might be firing employees in the name of refactoring.

Personally I suggest my friends to try Linux at their own pace.

  5. Just in case someone here or someone you know still has to use windows 10 in EU (not sure if this works outside of EU) but the PC never got the "enroll" button for Extended Security Updates to show up, this video really helped me (small changes in the windows registry that are simple enough to follow):

Some people I know do not have an option to upgrade their hardware right now.

  6. In my search for the perfect Linux desktop distribution, I came across Zorin OS 18 about three weeks ago, after the entire Linux YouTube community responded with rave reviews to the latest release.

And while I was only moderately enthusiastic about earlier versions, if not at all, in the case of version 18, I have to join the applauding crowd!

Firstly, everything works out of the box, and secondly, the graphical implementation of the GNOME desktop is a perfect blend of the old Windows 10 start menu for those switching over and the polish of macOS. GNOME on KDE style, only working better with apps like Calendar – where I ALWAYS have problems with synchronization in KDE (Akonadi)!

I now use Zorin OS 18 Pro (yes, I was so enthusiastic that I bought the Pro version for EUR 47, also to support the team) as my main system on my desktop computer.

On the ThinkPad T490s, however, I run Fedora 43 because I also want to use a more current distribution.

A minor disadvantage of Zorin OS is that it is based on Ubuntu LTS, with correspondingly older kernel and program versions. But as long as you don't use brand new or exotic hardware, everything works fine. And not having to install updates (several times) every day, as is currently the case with Fedora, is also a nice thing.

I can only recommend everyone to take a look at Zorin OS. The core version is free and is perfectly adequate for most people.

  11. Desktop Linux FTW! Spent Sunday updating the wife's laptop from EOL Windows 10 to Debian Linux w/ KDE Plasma. She was already using Firefox & Thunderbird and I was able to migrate those apps profiles so up and running lickety-split with no issues.

  16. Does anyone have recommendations for a decent bottom mid range Mini PC? There are no requirements on terms of computing power other than running Windows 11 and maybe its successors for the next 10 years, plus office programs and web.

I see there are some sold without USB-C, which is a deal breaker, what other traps should I avoid?
