The Pharos #Ostia #GPS Navigation and Routing software for #PocketPC has been uploaded to the Internet Archive.

This is version 6.0 of the software with the 4.0 maps. It was released in 2003.

Previously, the only version available on #Archive was 5.0, so hopefully this helps out those who need it.

While it's still early in development, Windows CE is being ported to the Sega Dreamcast!

The DC always had support for the CE libraries to assist in ports from the PC but now it will have a full desktop available to the end user.

In it's current state it's not particularly useful and it's debatable that it will ever be much more than a curiosity. However, if at some point there were a way to load/ install .Cab files then that could really open the door for some interesting things.

Another thing that really surprises me is that the #GPS stuff is driverless on #PocketPC.

I don't really understand why. Cameras, LAN adapters, non BT Keyboards, etc. all require drivers, but not the GPS stuff.

GPS uses the #NMEA standard but i find it hard to believe that support for this was baked into #WinCE.

Whatever the reason its quite convenient!

I got a funny computer with a Geode CPU. The goal is to use it as a retro DOS machine. Cost me ~5 euro :)

It has soldered flash and Windows CE installed. There are some options to hack it to run custom binary. Lot of legacy protocols.

I hope to get something from it.
