  1. For anyone here who might die one day. What's your plan for where your rings, jewellery, and watches go? Is it going with you, or not?

  2. @geneapleau I too have had some great success with the full text search. Particularly with #wills, finding those executors and beneficiaries you might never have otherwise located. #familysearch #fulltextsearch #genealogy @genealogy

  3. I do have some openings for Estate Planning appointments in Oklahoma City over the next few weeks. My rates are affordable ($450 for my wills package, $1250 for my revocable living trust package), and I offer significant discounts to school teachers (at any level, preschool-college), peace & social activists, and neighbors, among other folks.

Details below on how to schedule an appointment: www.jmbranumlaw.com/estateplanning.htm

  4. #askFedi Is there a site that offers a simple shareable setup for website succession?

Like "if I am hit by a bus, I have filled out this form so that these listed people with access will know who to pay and how often to pay for:
    - hosting
    - domain
    - email
    - visual design
    - code design and work
    "
    Etc?

Like if you ran a business building websites, you'd need to hand all this off to the buyer?

  5. This is such a brilliant idea, even if it's morbid.

I doubt I can make my parents do this tho. When I asked them to prepare their wills, they were visibly incensed. (In Asian cultures asking this is equivalent to saying: I want you to die faster 😆)

Then, I told them that I've already prepared a will for myself what's their excuse? 😆

Also, I reminded them that the govt will take their money if they don't do it. (Not really super true but the oldies believe it hahaha)

    It worked.

  7. Ars Technica: How to draft a will to avoid becoming an AI ghost—it’s not easy. “Trained on the data of the dead, these tools, sometimes called grief bots or AI ghosts, may be text-, audio-, or even video-based. Chatting provides what some mourners feel is a close approximation to ongoing interactions with the people they love most. But the tech remains controversial, perhaps complicating […]

9’s newspapers reported that the candidate for the seat of #Wills, #JeffreyKidney, pleaded #guilty to obtaining financial advice by #deception in 2024 for a 2019 breach.

Kidney was ordered to pay fines & $10,640 in compensation to the Victorian WorkCover authority but no conviction was recorded against him.

#auspol just another typical LNP member.

  10. @[email protected] @[email protected] #genchat #wills #probate One thing we could be better at doing is sharing the names of all the people we find in a will. Beneficiaries are not generally indexed, but imagine if you could search a probate archive like that. Some societies have done some excellent work on this e.g. Oxfordshire FHS, see an example here: wills.oxfordshirefhs.org.uk/

  12. Forgotten books and how to save them

On the Neglected Books site, there is a fine meditation on rescuing forgotten writers and their works from oblivion, and why this is important. As its author Brad Bigelow explains:

I have been searching for neglected books for over forty years and the one thing I can say with unshakeable confidence is that there are more great (and even just […]

  17. Happy to be sitting up doing some more old document reading. And thank goodness again for easy colour/balance graphics processing software to make it more readable! Here a testament testamentar (Scottish will and inventory) from 1648. #HistoricalResearch #ScottishHistory #Genealogy #FamilyHistory #17thCentury #SeventeenthCentury #Will #Wills #Inventory #Inventories #Testament #Testaments #Palaeography #GraphicsProcessing #GraphicSoftware

  18. My brother passed away recently and I’m executor of his will. I am sure learning a lot about #legal things. Most of what I’ve read does not have “see a #lawyer” near the top of the “to do” list. I’m adding it to my list. Can’t wait to learn about probate and other things I never learned in school (sarcasm). #death #wills #executor #LearningCurve

  19. Back at work this week!

I will be giving a #learning and #teaching seminar next week (11th January 2023) through the University of Suffolk on #creativity #engagement and #technology in the classroom, titled 'Minions and the Makers Movement - Making Complex Learning More Accessible'.

I will be explaining how I have used #3DPrinting and other creative arts to increase understanding of complex areas of the #law - in areas such as #IP, #Trusts and #Wills and #Probate. Come along to hear about the advantages this new tech brings - and how badly I draw things on a whiteboard!
