On Friday, I had an official in-person meeting with my city councillor, Lily Cheng.
First time ever meeting with a politician to share my view point about something. There’s a first to everything.
Did I talk about parking? Housing policies? Bike lanes?
No.. we talked about Israel. Or more precisely, her decision to attend the “Walk for Israel” in June.

Councillor Lily Cheng, "just asking questions" about a proposed shelter for Indigenous women and children, on Sheppard, 2 blocks west of Yonge.
-Why here, and not somewhere else
- Where will they park?
- Will they be using drugs?SMH

Well well well... I was right to think 2 years ago that it was weird Stan Cho, MPP of Willowdale (a neighborhood/part of Toronto directly on the subway line) needed HOTELS when going to Queens Park
https://globalnews.ca/news/11964297/stan-cho-hotel-expenses/
Snarky MPP staff had accused me of wanting to "singling out" MPP Cho.

Lily Cheng claims in her newsletter that standing next to the Israel flag and wearing a shirt that says she walks with Israel does not mean she gets involved with geopolitics. She claims she gets to build bridges with all communities..
Always plays the coward, tries to pretend it has nothing to do with anything.
Of course would never be seen with a Palestinian flag on her shirt on at any Palestinian protest.

Lily Cheng with Bradford at the "Walk with Israel" rally this weekend
Lily Cheng often claims in her newsletter that "conflict in the middle east" has nothing to do with what's happening here, and that she does not take positions on the "conflict".
Meanwhile, she wears a shirt in support of Israel during an ongoing genocide
-
As expected, #Willowdale is not happy that Yonge street will be realigned during subway construction
-
Lily Cheng attending pro-Israel lobby conference of CJPAC
Curious to see which councillors will « walk with Israel » this Saturday while the country keeps their bombing and invasion of Lebanon
-
Lily Cheng is super mad that her motion to bring parking lots to subway stations failed.
She says Toronto lacks vision. Her "vision" is inspired from Taiwan, Japan, and she's disappointed Toronto doesn't want to follow her parking lots vision.
-
What is she really passionate about? Parking
Rarely any council meeting goes by without her pushing some new parking policy.
And notice how she talks about transit users, in her mind families drive their minivan, they don’t take transit.
Her annual bike ride doesn’t make her an ally for biking or active transportation in Toronto
-
Many cyclist advocates were cheerleading Lily Cheng annual bike ride from Willowdale to downtown last weekend.
Sure it’s a nice ride, good PR. But notice how she never says a single thing about biking at council or present any motions on it.
Never moved the needle on making #Willowdale few cycling routes better connected south to the 401. Or anywhere really.
-
She loves putting her name on family and community events, but how many motions at council did she bring for new bike lanes and try to resolve those missing links? What about crossing Willowdale south of 401?
Nada, nothing, rien.

Thank you for the blog post.
My problem with Lily Cheng associating her name with this event is that she has done absolutely nothing to improve things and add safe bike paths on this ride.

Construction of Steeles Station requires excavation of a large underground station box underneath Yonge Street.
To maintain north-south connectivity, Yonge Street will be temporarily realigned onto a newly constructed diversion road west of its existing alignment.
LOL that will go well in #Willowdale

If you live in #Willowdale two journalists are starting a new initiative to bring a new news outlett to the neighborhood.
They want to hear from the community, fill out this Google survey

Lily Cheng in #Willowdale is again advocating against new housing next to a subway station
According to her, adding 2000 new residents to the neighborhood would be a risk to lose the Costco (???). As if adding new people to the neighborhood would make Costco leave.
Yes some "essential local retail shops" (aka Starbucks) would leave... But there's no shortage in that area, it's beyond ridiculous.
-
Read in my local #Willowdale facebook group. So glad those people can't block... fourplex anymore.
Imagine the outrage if a 3 million dollar home was to be built and would require letters, public consultations, etc, etc. But yet, when it's 4 families moving in, they would LOVE the opportunity to join a meeting and scream at this idea.
-
Lol! I always think #AStopAtWilloughby is a stop at #Willowdale (a neighborhood in #ScarboroughME near the now-defunct railroad tracks).
-
Lily Cheng would like to tell you that it's important to wear reflective vest as a pedestrian, but has nothing to say to drivers about slowing down when conditions are bad.
-
On the positive side we don’t have a lot of moments to meet progressive voices and local orgs within our own North York neighborhood. So those type of gathering are a good way to meet local folks that are involved, without having to join a group downtown
And seeing that the room was packed, it does remind the councillor we aren’t just the car centric citizens she read on her Facebook and that forgetting about us would mean a lot of engaged citizens against her

At the #Willowdale Climate Action roundtable organized by my local Toronto city councillor Lily Cheng
I’m torned on those events. I wonder how much of it is just to give good conscience to the councillor.
While she keeps voting against more dense neighborhoods and in favor of pro-parking policies

Willowdale Climate Action Roundtable on November 24th at the North York Central Library Auditorium

I guess my understanding of the motion wasn't complete, while for full neighborhood it would be restricted to East York and Toronto, it would bring it city-wide on what the city considers major streets.
Well that part is a win.
For example, that's the map for #Willowdale everything in yellow would be included (and red was already allowed)
All maps:

Of course now Lily Cheng will get to say she voted in favor while doing absolutely nothing for #Willowdale another meaningless flipflopping vote.
-
#Willowdale tell your councillor Lily Cheng what you think of small retail stores in your neighborhood

@jarek @the5thColumnist @mayintoronto Willowdale has so many streets without sidewalk. Some of those street are even leading to a park!
And then in Don Valley North within Bayview Village neighborhood, found 2 instances of sidewalk stopping mid street. Can only imagine residents refusing them. How can they be allowed to refuse I don’t know.

Lily Cheng, NIMBY councillor of #Willowdale in Toronto went to South Korea.
What did she learn? She learned about sleek parking infrastructure. In South Korea! Speak about missing the forest for the trees
Also Toronto transit isn't randomly underdevelopped, it's something she can actually influence as a councillor. She's saying that as if it just happened and there's nothing we can do beside keeping parking in place.
-
Well after almost no debate at Toronto City Council, they quickly decided that two stroke engine that pollute like insane should be kept. Even thought many other cities banned it, and we have electric alternatives available.. TODAY
And yet our councillor Lily Cheng keeps talking of her great "environment committee" she is sponsoring. Yet every single vote she votes is against the environment

In this horrible week of genocide, where even the western allies of Israel are condemning them for withholding food and aid supplies to Gaza.
Lily Cheng councillor of #Willowdale is sending a newsletter to encourage people to.. learn about the victims of October 7th. That's it. No word on Gaza, no word on Palestine, nothing. Just remember what happened on October 7th.
I just can't with that woman, i just cannot. And to think she considers herself Christian.
