Dopo il successo della mostra dedicata a Daniel Spoerri, la Rocca Albornoz di Narni torna a farsi epicentro della scena culturale nazionale trasformandosi, dal 28 marzo al 26 novembre 2026, nel laboratorio a cielo aperto di NOVANTA. 30 anni di underground.
Il progetto, presentato da Archeoares come capofila dell’ATS NarniArt e affidato alla curatela scientifica di Antonio Rocca, si propone di indagare quello strappo mai ricucito con il mondo dell’arte ufficiale che proprio negli anni Novanta ha generato linee di ricerca inesplorate e radicali.

Il percorso espositivo non è una semplice celebrazione nostalgica, ma un dialogo vivo tra i protagonisti di quella stagione e gli artisti eredi di una medesima attitudine critica e indipendente, offrendo una panoramica su una produzione che, ripartendo dalle istanze del movimento del 77, ha saputo rileggere la tradizione dell’avanguardia per farla confluire nella potenza visiva della scena rave.
Dal punto di vista pittorico la scena è dominata dalla figura di Gianluca Lerici, meglio noto come Professor Bad Trip, presente con un corpus di tele, disegni e fanzine che ne testimoniano il ruolo di creatore di icone capaci di saldare la patafisica al cyberpunk, transitando senza sosta per le visioni distopiche di William S. Burroughs.
A fare da contrappunto tridimensionale a questo immaginario intervengono le sculture di Lucia Peruch, in arte Lu Lupan, che aprono una finestra sulla storica Mutoid Waste Company; dal 1996 Peruch è parte integrante della Compagnia che, facendo letteralmente arte degli scarti, ha forgiato un’etica e un’estetica basate sul rifiuto totale dell’omologazione.

A partire dal 22 maggio, accanto a queste figure centrali, l’esposizione si arricchirà dando ampio spazio agli episodi più dirompenti emersi dall’arcipelago della cultura antagonista di fine millennio, coinvolgendo nomi del calibro di Valerio Bindi per SCIATTO produzie, Giovanni Binel e Infidel per l’esperienza Torazine, Bambi Kramer per il Crack! Festival, Fabio Lapiana di Venerea, l’identità collettiva di Luther Blissett attraverso Andrea Natella e le reti indipendenti di AVaNa BBS con Agnese Trocchi.
Il progetto vedrà inoltre di numerose opere concepite appositamente per l’evento da Patrick Alò, giù, Sonia Giambrone, Nora e Alberto Urbani, mentre la sezione Arnia 33, dedicata specificamente ad artist* under 33, crea un intarsio creativo che fa vacillare definitivamente i confini tra le generazioni e le epoche.
L’intero evento troverà il suo compimento naturale il 26 novembre 2026, con una giornata interamente dedicata alla memoria di Gianluca Lerici in occasione del ventennale della sua scomparsa, suggellando così un viaggio profondo tra le macerie e le rinascite della controcultura italiana.

In this the legendary 1978 Nova Convention, we hear interviews with organizer/poet John Giorno, followed by the uncut Nova Convention panel discussion unheard for decades. Moderator Les Levine masterfully guides panelists William S. Burroughs, Robert Anton Wilson, Timothy Leary and Brion Gysin. Listen to them re-imagining science fiction and foreseeing a culture yet to come.

The Nova Convention was a three-day event, taking place in New York City on November 30, December 1 and December 2, 1978. Intended as a homage to William S. Burroughs, the “convention” included seminars, music performances, readings and more. Attending were an odd mixture of academics, publishers, writers, artists, punk rockers and counterculture disciples. The event had a small hitch. The organizers had announced Keith Richards’ attendance, which made the event a sellout. Richards’ last minute cancellation, however, gave the event an antagonistic oscillation between performer and audience.

The series was originally produced by Giorno Poetry Systems for WBAI radio. The 2013 restoration comes from John Giorno’s private tapes. In this the legendary 1978 Nova Convention, we hear interviews with organizer/poet John Giorno, followed by the uncut Nova Convention panel discussion unheard for decades. Moderator Les Levine masterfully guides panelists William S. Burroughs, Robert Anton Wilson, Timothy Leary and Brion Gysin. Listen to them re-imagining science fiction and foreseeing a culture yet to come.

The Nova Convention was a three-day event, taking place in New York City on November 30, December 1 and December 2, 1978. Intended as a homage to William S. Burroughs, the “convention” included seminars, music performances, readings and more. Attending were an odd mixture of academics, publishers, writers, artists, punk rockers and counterculture disciples. The event had a small hitch. The organizers had announced Keith Richards’ attendance, which made the event a sellout. Richards’ last minute cancellation, however, gave the event an antagonistic oscillation between performer and audience.

The series was originally produced by Giorno Poetry Systems for WBAI radio. The 2013 restoration comes from John Giorno’s private tapes. Audio recording of a lecture & writing class with students at Naropa University. Poet Allen Ginsberg is also in the audience. Burroughs covers topics including paranormal phenomena, magic, synchronicity, precognition, dreams, his cut-ups technique for writing, & he answers many questions from students & from Ginsberg in a Q & A. He reads from some of his fiction & non-fiction writings. The woman who asks many questions near the end & thanks him at the end I believe is Anne Waldman of Naropa University.

This audio recording complements the previous one.

In this recording Burroughs covers the cut-up method of writing in some detail, & reads from his own cut-up writings, as well as some by Burroughs’ sometime collaborator Brion Gysin. Burroughs describes how some cut-ups appear to be uncanny prognosticators, accurately predicting future events, according to Burroughs.

He also describes experiments with audio cut-ups using tape recorders. He had intended to play recordings of some of Gysin’s tape experiments at this lecture, but the tapes had not arrived on time. Instead, Burroughs describes some of the cut-up tape experiments.

And he covers other tape experiments that interest him conducted by paranormal investigators & what today is commonly known as EVP (electronic voice phenomena), where tape recorders are supposed to record unexplained mysterious human voices though no such sound input is available to the recorder. Burroughs refers to these as “Paranormal Voices” experiments/phenomena.

Burroughs also makes reference to dreams, the last words of Dutch Schultz, Shakespeare, computers, Homer, Gertrude Stein, James Joyce, T.S. Eliot, & Carl Jung.

Kurt Cobain was…

…first exposed to Burroughs’ work in high school, it heavily influenced Cobain’s writing when he started enforcing the Beat writer’s “cut-up” method. First introduced to Burroughs by artist Brion Gysin and inspired by a similar technique used by Dadaists by the 1920s, the collage-like approach mixes words and phrases that are pieced together, often creating juxtaposing text or narratives.

“My lyrics are total cut-up,” said Cobain.”I take lines from different poems that I’ve written. I build on a theme if I can, but sometimes I can’t even come up with an idea of what the song is about.”
