  1. This very cute Eastern Cottontail Rabbit was very photogenic, didn't seem to mind me taking it's picture and allowed me to get very close. Big ears, brown eyes and short fluffy white tail is a combination hard to resist. The Eastern Cottontails are a provincially protected species in Ontario.

  2. @twt @rayckeith Totally agree!

I've had the great privilege of visiting the place mentioned in the original post, Volcanos National Park in Rwanda. Went on a hike up a mountain with guides to see the Highland Gorillas there. They're absolutely amazing. They live in an extended-family group with individuals of all sizes and ages.

Some were acting playfully and trying to get our attention, but others were clearly keeping a wary eye on us (even though we were keeping at a safe and respectful distance) in case they needed to step-in to protect the group from strangers.

I was on the tail-end of the group, and as we were leaving, I saw a Silverback who'd been quite defensive-looking had positioned itself between its group and our group. It stretched and relaxed, and caught my eye to let me know it was seeing-off our group. It was a very human gesture, and made it plain to see how closely related gorillas and humans are.
