So, it's time for me to share my wilde speculation about Wilde Life.

We know Shirley Goodness is spreading rumors about an Oscar-Nora relationship.

Nora says that "nobody with a lick of sense would listen" to the rumors.

But there are two people who would be really upset by such a hypothetical relationship: Sylvia and Carl. (For those who haven't read WL, Sylvia is the ghost who lives in Oscar's house and is in love with Oscar, and Carl is Nora's ex-husband who physically abused his stepson until he got caught and Nora kicked him out).

Sylvia doesn't leave the house, so she's less likely to hear the rumors. On the other hand, Carl is already extremely bitter about "losing" Nora and his kids. And as Oscar points out, Carl might already blame Oscar for everything despite Carl baring responsibility.

Since we're in Podunk, the town of magic and monsters, I predict that Carl's resentment and hatred will cause him to morph into a monster (the literal magic kind, not the metaphorical child-abusing-human kind). Or maybe it won't be that he literally turns into a monster, but that a monster feeds on his hatred and eats him from the inside out, which gets the same result (similar to Raven in Chapter 9).

I further predict that Carl Monster will attack Kevin, which will be how Kevin learns magic is real. Kevin will be saved by some combination of Cliff, Nora, Oscar, Barbara, Eliza, and Darcy.

Now, you may object that, according to Cliff, people in town other than Oscar don't get attacked by monsters.

However, Cliff is not entirely correct. Sylvia has scared plenty of people out of her house before Oscar moved in. Oscar's neighbor Becky was dealing with a ghost in Chapter 3 before she met Oscar. Sheol killed Pastor Goodness, whom Oscar was nowhere near. Several chapters start with unnamed background characters encountering monsters:

Cliff himself has encountered monsters when he wasn't with Oscar, including when he was attacked by wolves before he met Oscar, when the witch captured him in "Animal Circus," when he met Raven, and when he met Johnathon and re-met Sheol in "Me and the Devil Blues." (And also when Sheol attacked him as a baby, but that wasn't in Podunk). Hence, I don't think it's far-fetched to speculate that Kevin could be attacked by a monster that already knows him.

Now, let's get back to Sylvia. Eliza warned Oscar not to write down anything about magic

But Oscar has been doing it anyway, and he's shown Sylvia his journal.

If Carl does turn into a monster because he believes in an Oscar-Nora relationship, and Oscar encounters him, Oscar will likely write about it in his journal. Even if he doesn't try to show that entry to Sylvia, she could read it herself (she's a ghost who lives in his house). And that might make her more angry.

In Wilde Life, Oscar summarizes the current chapter's events for his ghost roommate Sylvia...but Oscar leaves out really important information. Oscar makes it sound like the only person trying to hurt Cliff was Cliff's father, an ordinary nonmagical human. He neglects to mention that there was a soul-eating monster that was also after Cliff, and that the same monster is now after Oscar.

We've previously seen Sylvia is "possessive" of Oscar, getting upset when he's out of the house for a long time or when he's gone on dates with living people. If Oscar is afraid to tell Sylvia about the magic antics he's gotten up to, it's starting to look more like he's in an abusive relationship.

On the other hand, Oscar has previously demonstrated he's really bad at sharing information with key people that he ought to share with. It feels like there's enough moral ambiguity for me to feel bad for both of these characters.

Darby Creek winds through the Philly suburbs, feeding the Delaware River. Stocked with trout in spring, they’re usually gone by June. No wild trout, and downstream sections may have water quality issues. But it's my favorite stream😊

A very long rod with a fixed-length line would be ideal for this situation - no need to walk on the thin ice or to worry about the fly line getting caught by ice. But, I had my standard 9-ft fly rod with me 🙃
I do have a 17-ft keiryu rod that I should've brought along 🤔

While Darby Creek was mostly frozen during the weekend, this small tributary seems to have warmer water and was not frozen😊

This pool was one of few unfrozen spots with a hope of catching fish, I cast my fly line several times because that is what I do 😉
