Radio Free Skaro #1062 – The Daleks Will Stop at Anything
http://traffic.libsyn.com/freyburg/rfs1062.mp3The time has come and the two previously missing but now gloriously present episodes of The Daleks’ Master Plan, namely The Nightmare Begins (Episode 1) and Devil’s Planet (Episode 3), are here to be viewed and reviewed! They appeared not only on the BBC iPlayer but also in full on the US (but not Canadian, feh) Classic Doctor Who Youtube channel, and we have viewed said episodes and have thoughts. But that’s not all we also have an interview with Toby Hadoke, who hosted a screening at Riverside Studios and reflects with Steven on the screening, the episodes, and the overall wonder that is their return!

Now #WildBlueYonder was absolutely brilliant. Ten and Donna are still the best, awesomest team ever. Altogether an absolutely amazing, thrilling episode that leaves me craving more Doctor, Donna, DoctorDonna, etc.

Not Everyone is Laughing at The Giggle
It’s Monday, as I type this. Earlier today, Simon and I recorded our session on #TheGiggle. Although we generally avoid listening to other opinions before we record, it was not lost on us that all the feedback we had seen online so far was pretty much positive.
Can you enjoy(ish) an episode and still find it maddeningly annoying? Listen and find out.
With the Giggle, there was “the story,” and then there was “the gargantuan seismic event that made the Flux look trivial.” It made for a long conversation, and I have broken it into two parts, which will be released over two consecutive days. Part One has already been released for our patrons on Patreon and will be released to everyone else on Saturday (UTC-07).
Menace Beneath the Waves
Yes, we did manage to get the time to record our podcast on the #UnderwaterMenace this past week, and it will be out on December 23rd, just in time for Christmas. Some might say it’s a Christmas miracle, but I wouldn’t.
This is our second take on the Underwater Menace, the first being back in 2016 when they released the story on DVD with the worst photo snap reconstruction in the history of time itself. It was so bad the Time Lords declared the whole thing a war crime.
Now, fully animated, it’s time to reconsider the story. It’s out now in the UK and will be released in the US in early January.
Onramp to the Fediverse
There’s a lot of trial and error involved in getting on board the Fediverse. This week, it has felt mostly like error.
When we first connected, everything we posted went live on the Fediverse. Yes, that’s more or less what we wanted, but there are no backsies. Once it’s out there, it cannot be removed.
Imagine my horror when it posted the scheduled post of #TheStarBeast and included the entire post, including the synopsis.
If you’re listening to Fusion Patrol, you know that there will be spoilers – the very premise of the podcast is that you have to watch the show first (or not be concerned with spoilers.) This is why I have no problem including the synopsis on the website; however, what goes out on the Fediverse serves a couple of different purposes, one of which is to try to induce new listeners to join us. To do that, you have to flag down people who, in the case of the Star Beast, are interested in #DoctorWho, so the content needs to be different, and basically just blasting out the entire plot line of a brand new TV show without content warning was just bad manners.
And there’s no way to delete it and try again.
I’ve not yet found a workaround, so this week’s #WildBlueYonder went out with no synopsis. That’s not ideal either, but for the moment, it will have to do.
This week, we also (finally) managed to get a test website up – this allows me to test changes to the Fusion Patrol website and the Fediverse integration without flooding your feeds with test messages. So far, every idea I’ve tried to reach a compromise has failed.

If Charlton Heston can play Moses, and Jim Caviezel can play Jesus, then surely Nathaniel Curtis can play Isaac Newton.

I like that the TARDIS can choose to up and run away when danger exceeds her comfort level.

This week, on The Second Great and Bountiful Human Empire, we're all wandering around a spaceship trying to have meaningful conversations about our friendships while simultaneously being horrified by how big and old we all are. It's Wild Blue Yonder.

CW: Doctor Who: Wild Blue Yonder, slightly spoilery
When Donna says that Isaac Newton was hot and The Doctor agrees, then gets surprised by what he just said and goes “Oh! Is that who I am now?”, I didn’t take it as him being surprised that he thought a man was hot. I think he was surprised that he just blurted it out like that. The same way he was surprised that he said out loud that he loves Donna in the previous episode.
He’s more OPEN about his feelings now.

The more I think of #WildBlueYonder the more I like the episode. It’s brilliant. Really gives David and Catherine a chance to show their range. It’s a very actor focused episode, the plot is just there to give them the stage to act on. It doesn’t need to be complicated. It can be a bit silly. That’s what #DoctorWho is all about!

Watched the 2nd #DoctorWho 60th special, #WildBlueYonder, last night. Utterly classic Who, only with perceptibly but not overwhelmingly higher SFX budget. I enjoyed it a *lot*.

I watched #wildblueyonder a second time today and it might become one of my all-time favourite episodes of #DoctorWho.

I sometimes forget that there are so many people younger than me, hence you may also enjoy this: Peter Davison (Doctor Who 5, real name Moffett) and Sandra Dickinson have a daughter Georgia who played Jenny "The Doctor's Daughter" to David Tennant's 10th Doctor character. Georgia is Tennant's wife.
Also, Michelle Gomez (Missy) has five foot long arms in real life.

I love the fact that Doctor Who Unleashed is respectful to fans who might have sensory processing difficulties or be sensitive to bright light. It is a genuinely #inclusive show.

Right wing #snowflakes losing their minds over #DoctorWho having an #IsaacNewton with extra melanin for less 2 minutes for a callback joke. #mavity #WildBlueYonder it would be funny if it wasn’t so scary that folk are still this hateful

#DoctorWho #WildBlueYonder #Horreur #Huisclos #RussellTDavies #DavidTennant #CatherineTate

CW: Doctor Who Wild Blue Yonder shitposting
Excellent episode. 5/5
Right up there with The Empty Child / The Doctor Dances, Blink, etc.

Always good to start a cold open with a terrible pun.

CW: Wild Blue Yonder
Seeing quite a few people saying #WildBlueYonder didn't live up to the hype. I thought it was brilliant - unsettling, funny, scary, emotional - and the character-driven episode with Donna and the Doctor that we / they needed. If it didn't include some of the wilder fan theories that's not RTD's fault. The Doctor's character progression, as well as their heartbreak at the mention of the Flux and the Timeless Child, has made me feel we're losing Tennant again too soon 😥

Thoughts on #WildBlueYonder?
I loved it. Really unsettling, and a masterclass in acting from #DavidTennant and Catherine Tate, especially Tennant, whose mannerisms as the other were very subtly different. And having to rely on their own ingenuity, with no sonic or TARDIS.
And I sobbed my heart out on seeing Wilf. I miss Bernard Cribbins so much, but I'm so glad they were able to film, even if it was just the one scene 💔

It's #DoctorWho like you've never seen it before... or maybe just like it was fifteen years ago. Our thoughts on #WildBlueYonder:
-
CW: Doctor Who (Wild Blue Yonder)
Wild Blue Yonder is my favourite Doctor Who episode in quite a number of years. Possibly since Heaven Sent. Creepy monsters are where it's at for me, and these ones were extremely good.
