@timbray #OnTheMedia's classic 2006 episode, "Prime Number", addresses this point beautifully, mostly related to news and media, though #Wikipedia and #Wikipedians should take note.
OTM cites #CarlBialik, then writing for the WSJ (he's since worked at FiveThirtyEight and is now at Yelp ... per Wikipedia):
An interesting phenomenon of these numbers is that they'll often be cited to an agency or some government body, and then a study will pick it up, and then the press will repeat it from that study. And then once it appears in the press, public officials will repeat it again, and now it's become an official number.

Any #Wikipedians know why the entry on the Crimean War is messed up in the way it displays. Looks like the infobox might need some tweaking, but I'm not sure. Can this be cleaned up, or does it need to just be reverted to a last known good version? #Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimean_War

A very new Wikipedia article about the Hemifusome! It was not yet scrutinised by stickling Wikipedians so it reads more like a scientific article than a Wikipedia article! Wow!
From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemifusome:
Hemifusomes are intracellular organelles first described in 2025 by researchers at the National Institutes of Health and the University of Virginia School of Medicine.[1][2] Discovered using in situ cryo-electron tomography, hemifusomes are heterotypic vesicular complexes marked by a persistent hemifusion diaphragm and a characteristic 42-nanometer proteolipid nanodroplet (PND). These organelles account for up to 10% of vesicular structures at the cell periphery and often contain intraluminal vesicles, but they do not participate in conventional endocytic pathways. Hemifusomes are proposed to act as platforms for vesicle biogenesis via an ESCRT-independent mechanism for multivesicular body formation. Their shape has been likened to a snowman wearing a scarf.

Call for #wikipedians using The #WikipediaLibrary : have you ever found a source in the #InternetArchiveBooks you can't use or read simply because you have not a complete access to all pages? I'm having this experience today, it's annoying. WHY we as volunteers still not have full access to these resources of @internetarchive ? BECAUSE there is a suggestion to include it in the list of partners still not approuved. If you care about such a relevant partner, please support the suggestion.

9/ I love #Wikipedia as a reader and served on the @wikimediafoundation Advisory Board for a few years. But my experience as a contributor has been largely negative.
Could we do this monitoring job on Wikipedia without inviting editors to take it down for violating the neutral point of view (#NPOV)?
We should be able to. The actions of the Trump admin, and the actions of those pushing back, are public and could be logged neutrally. But I'm not optimistic that such a list would survive for long. Could any #Wikipedians advise or help with that?

@dangillmor
Hey, #Wikipedians, thinking there could be a Wikipedia twitter eXodus article / section for celebrities, media, government leaving the platform in protest.
Short list I've cobbled together: Guardian, Le Monde, HelloQuitX campaign, Barbra Streisand, Don Lemon, Whoopi Goldberg, Elton John, Jim Carrey, Jack White, Mark Hamill, Stephen King; guessing there are, and will be, plenty more😉 -

Got to attend this awesome event today #WikiConference Kerala 2024. Caught up with @subins2000 and many more of the #opendata #osm #wikipedians during the event. I forgot that I had applied for the lightning talk and I was the only one who got selected. (Not sure if I was the only applicant).
Anyways I had completely forgotten about the talk and only realised I had my talk few hours before.
