I *loved* the theme #music, the #costumes, the #locations. 🤩 And I’m glad to say after rewatching: I still do.
It wasn’t until recently I learned additional seasons were made years after series 1-6 — starring the inimitable David Suchet, ofc.
The #tech advancements in titling, #CGI, and the use of #widescreen ratio def enhance the storytelling. And the move from Christie’s short stories to her novels abt the character aided the transition from single-episode arcs to longer-form #tv movies.

Thrilled with the redscale images from the 'new to me' Horizon 202 panoramic camera. Yes, there was slight banding on some of the images, and others looked a little funny for redscale, but on the whole they were awesome.

@wyatt I can think of one kind of 2D game that benefits from a widescreen patch. Some platformers use heavy "dual forward focus" in the camera, showing more of the map on the side of the screen that the player is facing to give the player more time to react to hazards. Think Yoshi's Island for SNES, the Sonic games for Game Gear, or Full Quiet for NES. A widescreen patch reduces camera movement when turning around, which could improve accessibility for players with motion sickness.

I recently told my fifteen year old that early DVDs often came with different versions on each side. I told him one side was labelled "fullscreen" and asked him to guess what the other side was.
The correct answer is of course #Widescreen because 4:3 filled the screen even though it wasn't the full width of the movie.

Our website has been largely unchanged for over a decade, and while we have major updates planned, we're also making little tweaks to improve the current experience.
From now on, our Games DB will no longer have to be updated manually each year to let the users filter the games by the current year. The cutoff point will adjust dynamically.
The immediate change seen today is the ability to filter by 2023 and 2024.

Went out to play with the #Sirui 1.33x #anamorphic adapter for mobile phones earlier today, shooting a sunrise at #HadleighCastle in #Essex.
Initially, I wanted to get an anamorphic lens with neutral-coloured flare for my full frame camera, but seeing this makes me just want to stick with the blue flare which most people associate with anamorphic lenses.

(continuing the thread on #widescreen) … notice the "BBC" logo in the previous post is adhering to "shoot and protect", laying it in severely far from the edge. This reflects some of the practices in 1998-2008 when the UK was transitioning to widescreen while giving a lot of thought into the simulcasting of analogue TV, a system that was retrospectively defined as locked-in to 4:3.
SBS TV had a fun time "#triplecasting" for a brief period around 2010, producing separate subtitles ("burned in" or open captions, not closed ones) when movies were widescreen with lots of handy black bar space was available to put the subtitles in. SDTV had it aligned for 16:9, with the words overlapping the image. And briefly, HDTV had the new sharper font available for the latest movies, briefly before #analogue shutdown.

Fast-forward to 2016 and Instagram launches square (1:1) videos — and I think it was @danilic who declared it was the best choice for production from then on, being a handy compromise between phones and widescreens (laptops and TVs). Do you still think so Dan? With toilet-phone-video at all time highs, YouTube Shorts launched in 2020 and is pushing 9:16 so much that I've seen new creative methods for packing "normal" video into a handy phone frame — not just pan-and-scan to supplement blurred backgrounds, but also stacking to give what sometimes seems an entirely new shot — the BBC is experimenting: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/_dnlzauCh5Q
