#ParadoxOfEmergence. The Paradox of Emergence entails that the more intricate an #EmergentDesign gets, the more complex #WickedProblems it can potentially solve.
However, all the potential power remains dormant, ethereal and invisible, especially to people other than the designer. It can only be properly perceived and valued, either with deep attention and focus on the emergent dynamics of the design. Or by dilligent practice in the field.
A design may represent a beautiful emergent Golden Dragon of Problem Solving. Waiting in its lair under Wicked Problem mountain for when its time to breathe its Fires of Solution onto mankind. Ready to soar. Yet what most other people and even at times the designer themself perceive is merely a tiny mouse. Thus they are unwilling to add their 2 cents to a Potential they cannot grasp. Unable to see how their support adds to a sizable Dragon's Hoard that has already emerged, lending power to the dragon so it may be unleashed.

In our quest to solve #ClimateChange most people go no further in root cause analysis than "reduce carbon emissions".
I've always taken it up a notch on the stepping stones of #WickedProblems to say its #Hypercapitalism we must tackle.
Now deeper insight gleans. We 'deserve' these problems. Simply because we're incapable to do better at large scale. But moreover we fall short at smallest scale:
We're so busy living & world-improving that we lost ability to listen and learn from each other. 👋

What is a complex problem?
What is a complex problem and what do we need to tackle it?
Problems can be simple or complex.
Simple problems have a clear first step, a known answer, and steps you can follow to get the answer.
Complex problems do not have a single right answer.
They have many possible answers or no answer at all.
What makes complex problems really hard is that they can change over time.
They have lots of different pieces that connect in unexpected ways.
When you try to solve them, one piece changes another piece, which changes another piece.
It is hard to see all the effects of your actions.
When you do something to help, later on the problem might get worse anyway.
You have to keep adapting your ideas.
To solve complex problems, you need to be able to:
- Think about all the puzzle pieces and how they fit, even when you do not know what they all are.
- Come up with plans and change them when parts of the problem change.
- Think back on your problem solving to get better for next time.
The most important things are being flexible, watching how every change affects other things, and learning from experience.

When it comes to #WickedProblems, there are no solutions, just ways to make them less worse.

On oikeastaan järkyttävää, miten työurani ehtoopuolella vasta aletaan ymmärtää rakenteellisen sosiaalityön merkitys. Pitkään on kuljettu New Public Managementin kautta. Se näkyy edelleen nimissä esim. ”tulosalue” tai ”tulosyksikkö”, vaikka palveluahan siellä tuotetaan. Mikä ihmeen tulos? #työ #wickedproblems

@torsten_torsten @actualham @reclaimhosting Glad you picked up on #EpistemicJustice as it’s a core focus, for me. For instance, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Bp0SMk138Y
Simply, I’m seeking adequate answers to the following question:
> Who decides what counts as knowledge worthy of being learnt, shared, and taught?
It does stem from egregious cases of #EpistemicInjustice. Silenced voices which matter more than the power afforded those with pulpits. If we want to solve #WickedProblems, that is.

@janwil The diagrams above are actually from intro to my #evoteid2023 talk trying out the concept of #wickedproblems on e-voting policy debate in Estonia. Also in your review article you claim that Estonia is an exception compared to many countries, that have stopped or don't want to start such projects. Using e-voting seems to come with a price and Switzerland does not seem to be able to escape the #polarisation too. https://p6drad-teel.net/~p6der/wicked-evoteid2023.pdf #evoting #estonia #switzerland

Before receiving my master's degree, I was in the third cohort of International #Fellowship in #Health #Technology #Assessment #HTA at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, #IITMadras #IITM #Chennai.
I love #data, #theory, and bringing both together. I am interested in raising awareness of dementia. I also like to engage in #SystemsThinking and #DesignThinking to better understand #WickedProblems.
I am passionate about #equity, #diversity, #inclusion, and #SocialJustice.
I am #Indian 🇮🇳 by nationality, my family is from #TamilNadu, #India and I grew up speaking #Tamil at home. I am comfortable speaking in 🗣️ #Malayalam and #Hindi.
