Spent some time this monday preparing the machine including installing 2.11BSD to the M2322 hard drive, as my DIY disk emulator showed some reliability issues at #why2025 . I'm still in the process of applying the latest updates to the system, as rebuilding kernels and part of the userland on a 1MB RAM, less than 1 MIPS system takes a fair bit of time.
Once I'm done updating the system, it will be at patch level 499 - the latest available for #211bsd , released on January 14th 2026!
If you want to play around with this system, visit the open day at RevSpace The Hague next saturday:
https://revspace.nl/OpenDag2026I will be attaching a few physical terminals to it (including a VT55 and VT100!) as well as allowing telnet from the local network.
Besides this, if you do visit and want to trade PDP-11 parts, I have a large collection of mostly QBUS cards that I want to part with, and am looking for PDP-11/84 (PMI) and PDP-11/44 (EUB) memory boards as well as spare CPU cards for the /44.

To anyone who wants to bring their why2025 badge to 39c3, don't forget to bring your antenna. If you don't have yours anymore, I am bringing a few kits with an antenna and connector (thanks to @a51c ).
I have 7 of them with a half-decent antenna for €6, and 2 of them with a the original badge antenna for €3.
The LoRa module on the badge also requires two bodge wires to be soldered. Two pieces of wire and instructions are included in the kits.
On some badges it may be required to remove some epoxy around one of the battery holders, and even if it isn't, it may make soldering the bodge wires easier. You may also want to make your badge safer and more compact by removing the battery holders entirely.
I am also bringing some epoxy removal kits for free (they're just alcohol wipes and disposable vinyl gloves).

After implementing an #RC5 infrared protocol prototype on the #MCH2022 badge and succesfully tweaking the frequency to 38kHz (because my Marantz apparently doesn't like the official 36kHz), it turns out that the infrared emitter on the #Badge is underpowered:
only from about 30cm does it read my signals 😩 -- not so useful for a remote 😂
Back to the drawing board.
(BTW: The helpful #FlipperZero could use an IR-read-RAW-always mode improvement.)

@davedarko @calisti @timpritlove @badgeteam @renze
The investigation done by @juerd was done outside of our knowledge. Which was not easy to keep separate. I was the only one from Badge.Team going to #WHY2025 and wanted a low profile camp. Just enjoy myself, distribute some stickers and sell #MCH2022 badges for our new foundation.
This all blew up and we had to step up our game. ...

@davedarko @calisti @timpritlove Which would have resulted in final units available in May.
This design used the same pouch cell battery as the one used for the #MCH2022 badge.
Since the #WHY2025 badge was designed by us /( @badgeteam ) under a a CERN open hardware license, this was allowed. Just as it allowed the lead designer ( @renze ) to release an updated version as the #Tanmatsu via his shop.

#WHY2025: Towards digital sovereignty with cloud federation: how to break the dominance of the hyperscalers
https://program.why2025.org/why2025/talk/KVXYMB/
The objective and scope of the ECOFED project are to develop a technical framework for a more open and integrated cloud usage model. This framework will enable multiple clouds from various providers to function as a single, cohesive system, offering a European alternative to hyperscaler clouds...

As one of the sad people not attending #Why2025 I’m looking for how to watch the video streams… on the schedule I see talks with and without a crossed out video icon, but at those without… will the livestream only appear at the time of the event? Say, the opening:
https://program.why2025.org/why2025/talk/BAU8GH/
Or isn’t it live, only “available after the event”???

@scy Last time, at #MCH2022, I rode the freight tricycle borrowed by the deco team from logistics a lot, mostly to move things around, and I have to admit, it's pretty fun (I also borrowed a bike to deliver a message from @ChaosPost once). 😄
I can't tell you about annoyed people because people are basically always happy to see you when you're an angel running an errand. 😁
If you do bring it, beware, there is one path next to water with no guardrails at the edge of the camp. -
