To anyone who wants to bring their why2025 badge to 39c3, don't forget to bring your antenna. If you don't have yours anymore, I am bringing a few kits with an antenna and connector (thanks to @a51c ).
I have 7 of them with a half-decent antenna for €6, and 2 of them with a the original badge antenna for €3.
The LoRa module on the badge also requires two bodge wires to be soldered. Two pieces of wire and instructions are included in the kits.
On some badges it may be required to remove some epoxy around one of the battery holders, and even if it isn't, it may make soldering the bodge wires easier. You may also want to make your badge safer and more compact by removing the battery holders entirely.
I am also bringing some epoxy removal kits for free (they're just alcohol wipes and disposable vinyl gloves).

After implementing an #RC5 infrared protocol prototype on the #MCH2022 badge and succesfully tweaking the frequency to 38kHz (because my Marantz apparently doesn't like the official 36kHz), it turns out that the infrared emitter on the #Badge is underpowered:
only from about 30cm does it read my signals 😩 -- not so useful for a remote 😂
Back to the drawing board.
(BTW: The helpful #FlipperZero could use an IR-read-RAW-always mode improvement.)

A couple of #WHY2025 takeaways while my memory is fresh... :why2025:
1) You probably have access to electrons in your tent, although delivery mechanisms may vary. This means you might be able to bring a fan. If you can, bring a fan. You will not regret bringing a fan.
2) Those earplpugs you brought with you just in case it got really loud at some point and you couldn't sleep. Just put them on. Don't wait for a cheeky late night #DONK. Sleep can happen!

Das Camp ist weiterhin wunderschön und der Trend zum „bring deine eigene Nebelmaschine mit“ scheint nicht nur bei mir angekommen zu sein. Nachts ist eh vieles Silent Hill, aber mir scheint, zusammen mit dem örtlichen Mikroklima und vielen dezentralen Cloud Providern scheint hier was ganztägig bezauberndes zu entstehen.
Whatever, ich war trotzdem in noch nem KI-Talk, und die sinngemäße Zusammenfassung hatte es in sich: es sei „wie damals bei der Dotcom-Bubble: alle hauen vor allem raus, hauptsache Produkt, und ob bzw. welche Sicherheitsimplikationen das hat, können sich dann irgendwann die anschauen, die übrigblieben“.
Sie zerlegten von Copilot bis Gemini an sich alles komplett, Eskalationsspirale „Wir hacken deine AI“ – „wir hacken deinen Rechner“ – „Wir hacken dich, genau dich als Mensch“.
Hintergründe: Alle Systeme haben sowas wie „Leitplanken“ (prinzipiell unsicher) und Barrieren (prinzipiell sicher). Letztere betreffen beispielsweise „vertrauenswürdigen Input“. Die KI misstraut natürlich allem, was der User ihr sagt. Sie misstraut auch allem, was sie generiert. Sie traut indessen dem Input eigener Tools. Talk war einigermaßen flott durchgehauen, daher tendenziell grob die Ideen: Tools und Module (bei Copilot z.B. Agenten) werden genutzt, um dem eigentlichen GPT Befehle unterzuschieben.
Die Methoden sind teils allerliebstes Blackhat-SEO der Nullerjahre: man schickt Leuten „weaponized Docs“, die eine Latte Anweisungen an die AI in 2pt weißer Schrift auf weißem Grund enthalten, die die KI natürlich liest. Bzw. im Fall von Gemini gibt man ein Googledoc einfach nur für einen Nutzer frei, der muss je nach Setup gar nichts machen, weil möglichereise eh alles im eigenen Zugriffsbereich von der KI analysiert wird, es könnte ja wer ne Zusammenfassung wollen oder ein „Finde alle Docs zum Thema Bla“ gefragt werden. Funktionen wie „Summarize Meeting“ etc. sind inzwischen Standard und die kann man ausnutzen. […]

Reminder for the #WHY2025 attendees: There are two main chemicals used in mosquito/insect repellents, #DEET and #icaridin (aka picaridin). Both are about equally effective.
In case you don't have a preference for either, my recommendation is icaridin. That's because DEET is a solvent and can damage plastics, synthetic fabrics, and other things. I've once permanently damaged my tent simply by touching it with DEET on my fingers.
Also, DEET interacts with sunscreen, making it ⅓ less effective.
