  1. Wow, that was quick. I submitted a sample to WhoSampled yesterday afternoon and it’s been approved already. It used to take months for a submission to be approved.

  2. First time I've heard the Elton John version and it is quite good.

#Moby's 'Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?' samples The Banks Brothers' gospel stuff.

  3. Thanks to @navi for letting me know that #Spotify has bought #WhoSampled last month.

I've added the sample information to #MusicBrainz now, too, and intend to make any future contributions there instead of at WhoSampled.

My first MusicBrainz contribution in over six years, excited to be back :)

  5. Oh, no! Expect enshitification of WhoSampled.

  6. So Spotify bought WhoSampled and is launching "SongDNA" to show you all the samples, covers, and collabs on a track. Guess they figured out we like knowing where our music comes from. It's like Shazam, but for the entire musical lineage.

Finally, an official way to settle those "Is this a sample?" arguments. What's the first track you're going to deep-dive into with this?

  7. It really feels like we need a wiki-like alternative to #WhoSampled. Their mod queue is simply too long, and changes to less popular music basically never get published.

  9. @joshuazalamea @bookstodon Had never heard of this platform before your toot – solid #Goodreads user disappointed by how poorly it's maintained – I'm really impressed by how the book surveys on #StoryGraph
work for things like Trigger Warnings, Character Development, Pacing. This is reader gold.

Wish #LastFM had something like that for albums/tracks to integrate what #WhoSampled has and more details like key/BPM (can you dance to it?)
