White Rose
The White Rose (Weiße Rose) was a non-violent resistance group in Nazi Germany led by 5 students + a professor at the University of Munich. The group would distribute leaflets + post graffiti calling for opposition to the Nazi regime. Their campaign ended with the arrest of several members by the Gestapo in 1943.
Siblings Hans (24) + Sophie (21) Scholl, as well as Christoph Probst (22) were executed by guillotine four days after their arrest in 1943. While Sophie + Christoph were silent as they died, Hans yelled "es lebe die Freiheit!" (Long Live Freedom!) as the blade fell.
Members Willi Graf (25), Alexander Schmorell (25) + professor Kurt Huber (49) were captured + beheaded months later.

Hans Scholl was born on 22 September 1918. He was, along with Alexander Schmorell, one of the two founding members of the White Rose resistance movement in Nazi Germany The principal author of the resistance movement's literature, he was found guilty of high treason for distributing anti-Nazi material and was executed by the Nazi regime in 1943.
