So I'm looking at a bad board out of (I think) a 4-burner electric cooktop. The date on the board is 2014. And this thing has a 32-bit, 50 MHz SOC with so many features and I/O channels and everything else that it's practically criminal. It can't have but 4 burner control knobs as input, and I doubt there was any kind of pixel-mapped display in it.
It's even the absolute top part number in this MCU's range.
This thing could emulate any 16-bit system you could name with half its transistors tied behind its back, and here it is serving as a glorified 4-channel PID controller.

OK, I'm a Boomer stuck in my ways, but why are "white goods" not white any more?
I don't change my kitchen design that often, and pleasingly haven't had to change many appliances in recent years, but here in the UK I've found it surprisingly hard to find an all white washing machine. Clearly, all black is the 'in colour' for those starting afresh. But why put "arty", I would call ugly, black portholes on all the latest 'white' models - Bosch, AEG, Hotpoint - they all do it. It's a bit like fridge/freezers went all silver a while back. (Don't get me started on "American style" which must be near unsellable now.)
So I've rejected the latest Smart-wash, AI-aided eco-efficient 2025 models and opted for one of the few previous generation al-white models instead.

CW: A longish story about washing powder
What's in your washing machine?
Recently after experiencing minor skin problem when we used a new washing detergent (Miele brand) we switched back to good old Cold Power.
But interestingly the itchy skin problem continued. We figured whatever was in the Miele powder was somehow still in our clothing. Or had it settled and accumulated at the bottom of the machine?
So I conducted an experiment. I put some Miele powder into a jar of hot water, shook it for 15 minutes.
Aha. See pic. Appears there is a significant quantity of insoluble filler in the product, and that's NOT being rinsed out because it gets trapped in the fibres of the clothing.
And it's evidently not getting rinsed out of the machine either - even with extra rinses in the washing cycle.
I have questions for #Miele 🤔
