14 March is White Day (ホワイト デー) in Japan when people are expected to send reciprocal gifts for chocolates received on Valentine's Day.
Didn't know it was started in the late 70s as Marshmallow Day by Ishimaru-manseidō, a confectionery company in Fukuoka, Kyushu. A few years later a department store wanted to expand reciprocal gifts beyond marshmallows and suggested renaming it to White Day (as marshmallows were white🤷‍♂️)

So, because #Japan devised a weird Valentine’s Day custom where women are obliged to give chocolates to men (including their co-workers or boss 🤢) an opportunity was created to make a second Valentine’s Day a month later where men are obliged to buy women something. It used to be something more expensive but now men can buy chocolates too. It’s known as #WhiteDay and is March 14th.

It’s horrible.

Anyway, my partner and I just buy each other chocolates and biscuits all the time.
