  1. Absolutely amazing results from my #AstronomySketching #Workshop at the Women in STEM conference for teachers and technicians yesterday! We created pastel drawings of #M51 the #WhirlpoolGalaxy and they're all fantastic :-D

  2. Excellent! I had a wonderful night and was able to gather starlight for 4 hours. The result is very nice. Have a look at the #WhirlpoolGalaxy #Messier51

The Whirlpool #Galaxy, aka #M51, is one of the most well-known objects in the night sky. It’s close enough and prominent in the northern sky that amateur #astronomers have shared stunning pictures of it for decades.

Did i show you my last image? I counted photons nearly 4 hours - on my -30°C cold camera mounted on my 10 Inch Schmidt-Newton. Focal length 2m

This Galaxy is very special to me. In 2005 i met my wife on the Observatory while imaging this Galaxy and the Supernova within. Now 18 years later - my wife is still there and the star which was so bright is not visible anymore.
Our love is still brighter than ever and brighter than any star can explode ❤️ ❤️

  5. A better picture, can you find the supernova? So happy we got a few hours on the light curve, the galaxy will really pop once reductions are finished too! #m101 #whirlpoolgalaxy #yorkobservatory #supernova #astronomy #Astrodon

  6. The Whirlpool Galaxy (M51) with its eye-catching spiraling structure which appears to swallow its neighbor...

Watched from downtown #marseille on a moonlight-less yet lightly cloudy night using 6 min exposure on the evScope.

  7. Finally found time to download & process this image of the #WhirlpoolGalaxy taken by the 2 metre #LiverpoolTelescope via #NationalSchoolsObservatory on 25th July 2022. It's a single 120 sec photo through a red filter. I processed it using Photoshop CS2 + Fast Stone #Galaxy #RemoteTelescope

  8. The skies here have been crap but I got 3 hours on this beauty with my Celestron C8N at f/6.3, ZWO ASI 294mc Pro, autoguider & EQ6R

  9. #SkyWatch #Astrophotography 25 million light years from Earth, the #WhirlpoolGalaxy interacts with its dwarf galaxy neighbor. Because this interaction is so visible, they are one of the most studied galaxy pair. As a result, the first planet outside of the Milky Way was discovered in the Whirlpool in 2020. I am #StillLearning how to process my photos and need to work on pulling the blues, reds, yellows and browns out of this particular subject.

  10. Discovery of the first #Exoplanet Candidate outside our Home #Galaxy #milkyway |. Discovery of the first exoplanet candidate in X-ray #binary M51-ULS-1 in the #spiral galaxy #Messier 51 (M51), also called the #WhirlpoolGalaxy using transit technique by observing dips in brightness at X-ray wavelengths....
