Any #book suggestions for someone wanting to be a better #trans #ally? Asking for a cis friend who wants to understand why I find some days/topics so hard after a conversation that began "JKR hasn't *actually* said anything ..." (stand down, I have since educated them!)

I suppose like a gender introduction book?

The things I've read are a bit heavy, e.g. #whippingGirl and Kate Bornstein's gender workbook (though I recall that being quite good).

we are viewed as enabling our own sexual objectification (by virtue of the fact that we physically transition from male to female) in much the same way that a woman who wears a low-cut dress is presumed to facilitate her own objectification.

Il faut vraiment que je relise Whipping Girl (et les autres bouquins de Serano que j'ai jamais lu) parce que ça me remet aussi mes propres cogitations en tête, notamment que cette dynamique n'est pas seulement restreinte à l'objectification sexuelle, mais à peu près à tout ce qu'on subit en tant que femmes trans.

L'idée étant que les femmes cis n'ont pas choisi d'être des femmes et donc l'oppression qu'elles subissent est naturellement injuste alors que nous sommes perçues comme ayant choisi de faire tout notre possible pour appartenir à une classe dominée donc c'est un peu comme si on méritait tout ça. On l'a bien cherché. Où, comme certain⋅es d'entre vous le disent si bien aux femmes trans en début de transition dès lors qu'elles osent se plaindre du sexisme : « Bienvenue chez les femmes »

In a male-centered gender hierarchy, where it is assumed that men are better than women and that masculinity is superior to femininity, there is no greater perceived threat than the existence of trans women, who despite being born male and inheriting male privilege "choose" to be female instead. By embracing our own femaleness and femininity, we, in a sense, cast a shadow of doubt over the supposed supremacy of maleness and masculinity.
