Alright. So. Rick and Morty is kind of amazing, and kind of terrible, and the main characters are all awful. But the ways in which is it good are REALLY intense and original. So clearly there is a market for similar shows, which perhaps fix R&M's flaws.
Enter Inside Job. A workplace sitcom about people that run secret societies (The Illuminati, etc.), VERY much in the style of Rick & Morty. It was GREAT. Way better than R&M. And of course, canceled after two short seasons. Fuckers.
And now they've started a R&M spinoff, "President Curtis", which is SOOOOOO similar to Inside Job it's insulting. (Seriously, PC is MUCH more of a ripoff of IJ than IJ was of R&M.)
Unfortunately, President Curtis SUUUUUUUCKS. (Alright, the Amelia Earhart character was cool. But that's about it.)
#Whine, whine, whine.

Y'all...I'm stuck. Artistically stuck. I have an idea in my head, and I cannot, cannot, cannot make it come out of my hands. Which, rude. I expect this sort of resistance from outside forces who do not initially to bend to my will, but from my own incarnation? Oh, up with this, I shall not put!
I mean, I don't know what to do about except be outraged like a dowager from a Marx Bros movie...but If I were wearing a jaunty hat with a feather, that feather would be aquiver with outrage, I can tell you!
I think I may set up a card table over a drop cloth and just throw paint at a canvas until I feel better.

I started feeling sick at 3pm on Friday. Incredibly rude collision between my body and this pathogen.
I hope other people had a nice weekend while I've been propping up the issue industry.

Had to get blood drawn today for tests.
What shoukd have been a 5 minute affair, turned into 20 minutes.
Nurse had to go find the right tubes.
Veins played hide and seek with the nurse.
Due to small gauge needle, filling tubes took longer than usual. And I will probably get quite a bruise despite the nurse's efforts not to. Because see above.

The "State of the Union" address, or as it has come to be known in recent times, the "Airing of Grievances Prior to Taking Grampa's Phone Away, Changing his Diaper, and Putting Him to Bed".
More seriously, unless they medicate him properly and do something to keep him on-script, Tuesday's performance is likely to be #legendary, and not in a good way.

Managing #permissions in OneDrive (or SharePoint or whateverthefuck) is a total trash fire for users. I hate to praise Google, but they do it so much better.

Spent the first 3 hrs of my Saturday cleaning my house. Like bathrooms and bedrooms and kitchen and just scrubbing and disinfecting and toilets and everything. 3 hours of my day and I'm completely wiped out.
Are you sure Gen Z and Milleniels can't afford houses? Like maybe they can but just don't want to... Cuz it's backbreaking labor as soon as you buy one. The work is CONSTANT.
Have a hobby? Fuck that, you need to scrub your toilets and wipe down your mirrors.
Have energy? Fuck that, you need to pull your Christmas decorations out from the crawlspace under your stairs and lug them to the living room just to pull them back downstairs in 30 days.
Fuck homeownership...
Thank you

I need #LibreOffice to make CTRL+Y functional. Agh.
Moving an object farther down the layer stack needs to be once a second with CTRL+Y (or even their weird CTRL+SHIFT+Y), not a right click in just the right spot (which might now be unclickable) followed by two or three selections in a context menu.I love LO, but stuff like this (and there are a dozen or so such glitches) makes me want to tear my hair out and just go use PowerPoint, which works pretty seamlessly for these details.

AWS had a little #oopsie, and now all the cool kids are losing their minds 🙃 over their broken apps. #DynamoDB in us-east-1 is #down, but at least #Reddit is still up for everyone to #whine about it! 🤦♂️ #FirstWorldProblems

Frustrating couple of hours.
Drove half an hour for a #vaccine appointment I made at a CVS location through CVS.com (they tried to upsell me, made a specific appointment time, told me firmly to bring my insurance paperwork, etc.) only to be told by people at the counter that they have no pharmacist who can administer vaccines and don't know when that will change. Sounded distinctly like I was being scolded.
I'm still on #facebook because of friends & family, and one of the groups--Welcome to Night Vale--has become unusable: first 20 posts had 13 for a performance group and 5 for merch sold through non-NightVale-affiliated companies. Two actual posts.
In positive news, I soothed myself on the drive home from #1 with some potato salad from a nearby grocery store.

I have been having Secure Shell hangs when sending/receiving bulk data (large packets) between my workstation and a WAN server. I think I've discovered bad behavior somewhere in the WAN.
I figured it out by pinging the remote host using different sized packets with the Do Not Fragment bit set. Above a certain size, one is supposed to go from receiving ping responses to getting back ICMP error packets indicating the packet was too large and that fragmentation is needed, along with the MTU size to use. This called Path MTU Discovery.
Instead of that I get three behaviors: ping response for small packets, silence for midsized packets (bad!), and error response for too-large packets.
This is really bad news, and it seems TCP just stops working if it can't get those too-large packets through.
Anyway, the WAN provider apparently autonomously rebooted their equipment, and the problem is now gone, but it has been dogging me intermittently the last several months. It's a real pain when ssh craps out when cat'ing a long file or git fetch sessions hang.
I now have the start of a tool that I can use to monitor that bad behavior is happening, though.

I had a mailing list back in 1989 called "Morning" where a bunch of us systems managers from different universities sent their morning whines into the universe to make them go away. I am the last person of the original membership alive now.

Another #whine about Microsoft. I use the 365 web suite. If I go to office.com now I am redirected to a Copilot page which I want nothing to do with.
I found this out when trying to show a new employee how to access all the web applications which I now have no clue on how to access.
Bright idea! Ask Copilot how to completely disable it in 365. I get an answer (see the image) which is
FUCKING WRONG!
There is no Microsoft Copilot setting in the Admin Centre!
Second bright idea: Ask Copilot how to access the Microsoft 365 Web apps. The answer?
Go to office.com and access them there.
Fuck this circular shit!
I don't want this AI shit shoved down my throat. I don't want to use. I don't want to see it.

Friday is my day off. The day where I lay around, reading utter fluff and try to regenerate energy for the week ahead. It’s a terrible day to have off because everyone else is working.
Sadly this morning was the only day the hairdresser had, so I dressed, caffeinated and dragged myself there. Only to find out my date was wrong, it’s next Friday instead, and now I’ve ruined two Fridays mornings in a row. #whine

Honestly!
We stopped at a cafe for morning tea today and himself had an iced coffee and i ordered a cup of tea. Why, why, WHY does no cafe in the universe have an understanding of how to make a decent cup of tea??? It does not involve throwing a teabag in a cup and sealing it up! I mean, if someone ordered a coffee, they would never open a jar of insta and throw some boiling water over it! No, they have this huge machine for making a quality cup. But for tea? No. Least possible effort taken :(
Please, restore my faith in humanity and tell me how your local does a proper cuppa!

Here in the middle of the #Canadian #prairies (#Regina, #SK), it was theoretically warmish out today -- only -15C, which is not bad at all for January. This is the time of year when we normally get some of our coldest weather -- occasional days where the mercury dips to -40C, where -35C is not that unusual, and where you might get a week where it never gets above -30C.
But it was *freezing* today. -15C is okay, but 80% relative humidity is not. People joke about our winters being "... but it's a dry cold!", but it really does make a difference. -15C with 80% humidity chills you to the bone in a way that a dry -30C just doesn't. Dressed properly, you can be comfortable all day long in the latter.
Hope we don't have too much more of this humidity in the forecast...

What's the deal tonight? Three separate people posting things that imply you can be kind and loving while also being "alpha," dominant, and a Super Leader who Gets Things Done by Getting Your Team to Do Things...
Yeah, I think you're desperate to believe that, I think it's mostly untrue, and I think there's no way you could hear any suggestion that your dream of having all the cake and eating it too isn't morally upstanding and totally feasible.
So I came to #mastodon to bitch about it, since there is zero chance any of those people are here.
