The writing style is beautiful and poetic—it feels like a song or a poem rather than a novel at times. There are moments when the language is so vivid and descriptive that you can almost picture yourself there in the marshlands with the main character Kya as she experiences her life-changing events.

Aptly described as a cross between Fried Green Tomatoes, and To Kill A Mockingbird.
Kya’s father is an abusive thug. When her mother leaves, & then her siblings leave, she raises herself in North Carolina marshland. She is later tried for murder.
Locals see “The Marsh” as land with little $ value and a white trash neighbourhood, but Kya sees The Marsh as a place of endless natural wonder.
Any woman who has been abused by a domestic partner, or knows someone who has (which means “most” women) will probably appreciate this movie.

Just watched "Where the Crawdads Sing" (it's on #Netflix now). I would have liked it much more if the acting had been dialed back a few clicks. The actors emoted the hell out of their scenes, which must have been the director's direction.
