*edited to add: just found the interview with the "Chasing Your Tail" guy - Matt Edmondson - who was asked to make a tool to help people recognise when they were being surveilled. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cjXp3bBd2h8 I link to it here because the #privacyGuides guide above doesn't (I think) fully explain how much information your telephone's radios freely transmit about you. He's an OSINT instructor by trade, so he's able to articulate how that information can be exploited. Were I going to any sort of political event, it's the sort of thing I'd want to understand before hand. Maybe talk to people who have attended protests in spicy countries, &/or been on the receiving end of less-lethal weapons (CS gas, sonic, microwave, water cannon, etc). Ideally find a retired copper and get their advice too. Maybe even email your lawyer *before* going... I'd wager if one did this, then one would *really* appreciate the elegance of the 10 tips in the original poster. And maybe pick up some other hot tips along the way.

It's very important that no one paints over the silhouette with any permanent dye like methylene blue. It is sold without restriction as a fish-tank cleaner. That would be a nightmare to clean off. There may be ways to impregnate dye into stone and then seal it in, and it would be important that no one did that either. I'm sure other more learned minds will be along directly to highlight things that would increase the permanence of this silhouette, so they can be avoided.

If and when the artwork is finally eradicated, placing carefully computed objects between the wall and each surrounding source of street light might create the same effect at night, using shadow rather than ink to create the silhouette. This usually doesn't require permission of the wall owner. The inverse of this, which people must avoid of course, would probably be repainting the silhouette with indocyanin green dye (or similar), and replacing all the street light sources with bulbs that output UV as well as visible-spectrum light. This would not be visible by day, but the shape would appear by night, faintly glowing under the UV, as if a ghost.

There's a huge problem to my mind; the author of the page to which you link highlights it, and it is that passing this sort of stuff as terrorism means we need a new name for actual paramilitary groups like ISIS or (at a push) the Provisional IRA.

I write this as someone who is against protest that blocks other people's free movement or damages property. I will do my protesting in my purchasing choices, with my vote, holding a placard, and if I can think of it, chanting (or otherwise publishing) something witty. And in spite of this I am aghast to have read about that royal marine who petitioned parliament being detained using terror laws, and of Palestine Action being declared a terrorist group. I think we have come to measure the quality of policing by how severe the Crown has been, and I think those who run the police would do well to consider Goodhart's Law.

I have no objection to Palestine Action being called ideologically driven criminal actors, but to call them terrorists, on the basis of their actions to date, seems beyond the pale.

Despite disapproving of their methods, I am somewhat tempted to donate to their legal fees!
