We have an ID! A kind of garden shears for cutting flowers; the shears grab the cut stems so they don’t fall down.

Somewhere along the way I acquired this pair of scissors with an unexpected feature. They cut like scissors. The extra thingummy sticking out one side of the pair of blades is the question.

So far, I’ve wondered if it’s a guide for cutting 3/8 inch (10mm) from a given mark on the thing being cut, while spouse wonders if it’s meant to keep one cut piece from falling to the ground.

Is there a tool ID tag in common use?

Soooo I was sitting outside around 11pm, filming an approaching hedgehog, when I suddenly heard this very loud sound. Whatever it is doesn't sound happy. I've looked up the distress calls of hedgehogs and martens because both live around here. But this doesn't really sound like either.

Does anyone have any idea what animal this could be? I'm in Europe btw.

I had a phone call with my gp on Friday, as no in person appointments left. I went through all the problems with my hands. Red, hot and itchy, or white and numb, painful joints, can’t bend, angry bumpy bits and swollen, can’t fully bend, and there’s pain when I try. It’s the same fingers on both hands.

She asked for some pics which I sent, and she said she would ring back with a plan. I’ve still not heard from her, and they’re getting worse.

Because it looks like maybe a few different things, I feel like I’ve tried everything, but nothing is helping.

I’m late coming back with the mystery answer! It’s giant TACTICAL black rubber bands! I think about 65 in 4 sizes. I use them often to close up bags of food that need to be tightly closed for freshness and often things put in the freezer or refrigerator.

I’ve always just used miscellaneous rubber bands, often the ordinary beige ones. But as I added to my list of things to order I had the thought maybe there are heavy duty large rubber bands and there are! Check out the screenshot. If you look at the Amazon product page the comments cracked me up. Manly men happy to have “tactical” rubber bands. And use them in ways I am not acquainted with. My funny moment of the day so far: received a box packed full of things I ordered from Amazon and of course since it was very early I couldn’t think well. So first I pull out a plastic packaging bag of box padding. Or is it! Ha, took me a few minutes to realize it’s something I ordered for household use. Can you tell what it is? est-ce que qqn sait ce que c’est précisément ? Et comment ça s’utilise ? Ça fait 1cm de diamètre environ, et c’est en métal, couleur laiton.

Il y en avait quelques-uns dans un lot de boutons-et-autres (y a des perles, et des bouts de chaînes, et des bidules un peu randoms dedans aussi, et des choses cassées…) acheté dans un vide-couturière… je suppose que c’est un genre de clou décoratif, ptetre pour le cuir ? Ou le bois ?
Mais je ne suis pas sûr de comment ça s’utiliserait tout seul. Ptetre qu’il manque un bout ? Mais dans ce cas il manque systématiquement, je n’ai rien trouvé dans le lot qui pourrait correspondre.

J’ai cherché par moi-même avec divers outils et mots-clefs, mais rien ne ressemble vraiment dans ce qui tombe.

I've got another #WhatsThis for you.

This thing sat outside the garage. It's cast, open on the bottom, has a rectangular groove for sliding something into and three holes in the groove. It's somewhat heavy. There's also a flange at the bottom.

Obviously it has been used as anvil/cutting surface, but what is its original purpose? If it's a T-40 tractor part, I don't know where it goes on that.

SOLVED: See bottom of thread.

It's about 30cm wide, has two independently rotating ceramic rollers with electrical heating spirals inside. But the routing of the wires restricts the turning of the rollers severely, so they can only rotate about 30°.

There's some elaborate ceramic covers on the wires and a metal tray for catching something between the legs.

It's clean, doesn't look like it was used for food. Maybe #sewing? I have absolutely no idea!

What is this contraption attached to a telephone pole in South Jersey? There were two at 90 degrees around the pole from each other.
