  1. Hey #WashingtonState and especially those in #WhatcomCounty: Call the legislative hotline today at 800-562-6000 in support of SB 6346, the Millionaires Tax. It has passed the Senate, but now needs a vote in the state House and Representative Alicia Rule of the 42nd district needs to hear we support it. Call today!

  2. I can’t begin to adequately describe how beautiful it was today up in the Skagit Valley. Sunshine and not a cloud in the sky. Could this be winter? It was a little chilly but I was dressed for success, four layers. We passed by flocks of Trumpeter Swans in the fields. We did a whole loop around Lake Samish. #bicycling #cycling #bike #SkagitValley #SkagitCounty #LakeSamish #WhatcomCounty #PNW #Washington

  3. This image is free to use if you are a business who is contemplating refusing service to ICE personnel.

Be advised you may want to seek legal advice and/or consult your local law enforcement agency before you refuse service to ICE.

  4. Ok, but speaking of that: if you find our little local instance useful (whether or not you are one of our 10 power users, maybe you just like supporting this service for others) please consider supporting our server costs with an (ideally recurring) donation at ko-fi.com/subduedsocial

  5. Hey Whatcom County: fill out the poll for Cascadia Daily's "Citizens Agenda" and shape the questions they will ask of local candidates. In particular, I encourage you to pick #15 about Ranked Choice Voting and #36 about Gerrymandering, but there are a lot of other good topics on there too.

  6. Marine Park has become the place I ‘need’ to go to in order to feel calm. Listening to the water here has brought so much peace to me whenever I visit that I almost don’t feel the need to take photos. Which makes me love this place more!

  7. A big article in the #CascadiaDaily about the recent Whatcom County charter review meeting about #RankedChoiceVoting. It was really a fascinating meeting with four invited guests who are #RCV experts from around the country. Well worth watching the video of the meeting (linked at the end of the article) cascadiadaily.com/2025/may/14/

The first 2? #Otherlands #beer in #Bellingham. OMG, the burrito is breakfast and lunch in one sitting! And their Winter Saison, was solid!
Last #photo? #Fringe in #Ferndale. This is the art on their cold box.

  11. The City of Bellingham will purchase 754 forested acres on the southeast side of Lake Whatcom from a local timber company, adding to more than 3,500 acres of land acquisitions in the watershed.

The property was last logged several decades ago and its forests will now be allowed to mature into older growth that will stabilize steep slopes, capture carbon and filter runoff.

  16. Here's the images I picked for my two 2025 Calendars. For my Bellingham calendar, I picked a misty morning at Lake Padden. I just love the foggy mornings here. And for my Asia calendar, I picked a photo of this amazing tree on the grounds of Angkor Wat. Just love the ancient feel to this tree that cast such an amazing shadow.

  17. We might also just be running into the limits of the precision of timeanddate.com, but still that's pretty cool that it's really only Whatcom County (and other places at our latitude, which are all effectively not populated at least within the contiguous US) has this phenomenon.
