  4. Pen-y-Ghent: Where Giants Trod

What a splendid view to stumble upon. Pen-y-Ghent, that stubborn Yorkshire monolith, standing proud above the limestone pavements of Winskill Stones, looking as though it has absolutely no intention of going anywhere.

A mountain with a name like that ought to come with legends attached, and Pen-y-Ghent does not disappoint. Stories of giants a ...

Extremely dry autumn in Yorkshire so far. Both photos taken at the same location (The source of the River Wharf at Beckermonds, Upper Wharfdale) exactly one year apart.

  10. This lovely #YorkshireDales walk in #Wharfedale gives great views extending along Wharfedale itself, Langstrothdale and across to Buckden Pike. After an initial climb most of the walk is fairly level and easy to follow. Details at happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/Yorks

  12. Quid Mirum!

The so-called Surprise View from Otley Chevin must have long since lost its element of surprise. Today was not my first visit to the Chevin but then I avoided this view. I have taken a somewhat unusual route: walking the winding path through Caley Deer Park, climbing up past the crags, spotting Almscliff Crag on the horizon, and reaching the ridge where the town of Otley stretches b ...

  13. For an easy to navigate, fairly level walk in the #YorkshireDales this from Buckden along the fell side to Kettlewell takes some beating. lt then returns via the valley bottom riverside footpath, part of the Dalesway. Lovely part of #Wharfedale. See happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/Yorks

  14. Living Heritage: From Cask Beer to Bloodsports

A short, uneventful stroll along the Public Rights of Way encircling Harewood House today, which remained tastefully out of sight for most of the way—probably for the best. I shall reserve for another time any reference to the minor detail that Harewood House owes its existence largely to money wrung from slavery and sugar p ...

  15. Sometimes it is nice to ditch the car which gives scope to walk a linear walk using public transport, in this case from #Airedale to #Wharfedale. Starting at Steeton and ending in Ilkley, you get good views and lots of interesting rocks to see. Details at tinyurl.com/4t9znr5e

  16. Starting at Addingham in #Wharfedale, this walk begins following an ancient route to Skipton, then curves SW across Skipton Moor to picturesque Bradley in Airedale, an ancient spinning & weaving village. Good pub - Slaters Arms. Details at tinyurl.com/ywu845db

  17. The Druid's Altar is a very unusual monument. A round cairn with three standing stones (and a fourth stump) and a central stone set into the top. It has been classified as a four poster stone circle, a type of monument more common in Scotland, but it's not really like anything I've been to before.

Superb weather for an 8 mile up and back walk from Threshfield, taking in some limestone pavement on Malham Moor.

  22. The River Wharfe is low at the moment so it’s an opportunity to walk this circular route from Burley in Wharfedale over stepping stones to Askwith, Denton and Ben Rhydding. Lovely #Wharfedale views. Great care needed over busy bridge at Ben R. Details at tinyurl.com/2j54ktdp
