Participants will make their own tray of #microgreens to take home, so please bring a plastic container and lid, such as a shallow take-away container.

  3. #NewZealand / #Aotearoa - Community Food Organisations

    #KoreHiakai - #ZeroHungerCollective

"Across Aotearoa New Zealand, communities are working together to support those who do not have access to healthy nutritious #AffordableFood. We have responded to this in a variety of ways, and are choosing to centre our map on those organisations providing immediate food assistance to #whānau. These include #CommunityMeals and #FreeStores, #FoodCoops operating a #lowcost or koha model for #FreshProduce, as well as more traditional #FoodBanks and #SocialSupermarkets offering food parcels, budgeting support and more."

  4. #Aotearoa / #NewZealand - Budget 2026: #Rangatahi abandoned as #homelessness hits record levels - youth advocates

by Layla Bailey-McDowell, Māori News Journalist
    5/28/2026

"A youth homelessness agency says Budget 2026 has 'abandoned' #Rangatahi experiencing homelessness, as new data shows homelessness in Aotearoa is at its highest level ever.

"Youth housing collective Manaaki Rangatahi pou ārahi (chief executive) Bianca Johanson described the Budget as 'an ivory tower budget', saying young people and #whānau struggling through the #CostOfLiving crisis had been ignored.

" 'I heard [critics] call this the abandonment budget. They have abandoned us and that's how it feels,' Johanson said.

" 'There is just more picking on the poor, making things tougher for those that are already just finding it hard to survive daily."

"It comes as a new report from Community Housing Aotearoa found homelessness had reached its highest recorded level in Aotearoa, with more than half of those experiencing homelessness under the age of 24.
Homelessness reaches highest levels in history, Community Housing Aotearoa report finds

"The report also found Māori made up 28.8 percent of people experiencing homelessness, despite making up 17.1 percent of the population.

"Manaaki Rangatahi Waikato regional connector Danielle Marks said the situation for #Māori experiencing homelessness was "disgusting".

" 'I think first and foremost, it's really disgusting that Māori especially are homeless on their own whenua,' she said."

  5. The #Maori taught me that the Western #society model is deeply flawed, designed to keep people fighting each other rather than working together as families #Whānau and communities #iwi to care for one another and the environment #TeTaiao we live in.

The Māori cultural approach has much to teach us in how we can survive the #ClimateEmergency and improve our health and society

  6. #NewZealand #GreenParty co-leader #MaramaDavidson #walksback comment linking ‘#white #cis #men’ to #violence at #PosieParker rally

“I will continue to stand with my #trans and #nonbinary #whānau and support #action to ensure that everyone can live their lives without fear of #hate or #discrimination.”

    - Getting struck by a motorbike is violent, getting juice poured on your head — while it may be embarrassing — is not likely to cause injury.

  7. If I keep quietly adding to this stoney edge, I'll end up with a lovely wee garden, shhhh, don't tell the whānau, they are wanting the area concreted 🙄

  8. Day 24 of my #AdventCalendar of #art. A shot where work #photography intersects with art. A community #hāngi to celebrate #Mātariki. The dark steaming mound of earth lit by car headlights and lights from the attendant fire engine. The almost ghostly shapes of the people waiting to dig away the earth to reveal the #kai and feed the gathered #whānau. Magical
