#KevinMcCarthy losing the #SpeakerofTheHouse job today was part of the deal #WGAEast negotiated for #SethMeyers & #StephenColbert.
Just remember, the jokes DON'T write themselves #WGAStrong.
I'm looking forward to what
Mike Scollins, Alex Baze and Sal Gentile write for Seth Meyers tonight!

'We Did It! Ex-WGAW President Howard A. Rodman Weighs in on Screenwriters' New Contract'
The 5AM StoryTalk guest contributor discusses our Guild's 'glorious' deal with the AMPTP, the cruelty of the companies that necessitated the strike, and the importance of collective bargaining in our culture.

The WGA win (which still needs to be ratified by membership vote) is a huge signal of the power of organized labour as the main tool to fight back against runaway capitalism.
Hopefully this cascades into more union drives, more worker rights, and more acknowledgement that the people who actually create products are where the value lies, rather than with executives and stockholders.

Looks like this is the last month I donate my streaming services subscription costs to the Entertainment Community Fund instead of to Disney+ and Neon.
Only ever had free trials of Amazon Prime Video and Apple+. No change there.

“The streaming industry has thrived on data opacity — allowing an industry in the business of fiction to twist the story to how it sees fit with carefully crafted data. Now, there will be real, actual, hard data available to the WGA membership.”

Writers Guild of America West @WGAWest
The WGA reached a tentative agreement with the AMPTP. Today, our Negotiating Committee, WGAW Board, and WGAE Council all voted unanimously to recommend the agreement. The strike ends at 12:01 am (THIS MORNING). Check out our deal at http://wgacontract2023.org/deal. #WGAStrong

The writers' strike is over at 12:01 tonight, as the negotiating committee and both regional boards voted unanimously to support the tentative deal.
SAG-AFTRA still needs a deal, before any production can actually get back to work. Their picketing continues and still needs your support.

Very happy to hear that the #WGAStrike might be ending soon. I eagerly look forward to hearing what the #WGAStrong negotiating team has managed.
Meanwhile, the #SAGAFTRAStrike continues.
While I'm hoping that #VFX can get back to work soon, I'm 100% pro-union.

A tentative deal has been reached between writers and streamers!!! 🥳🥳🥳
So happy for such an incredibly deserving community of people who do so much for the rest of us. I’m just grateful and celebrate with them for a historic deal that will change the lives of many, and benefit future writers as well.

#WGA seem to have reached a tentative agreement for a new collective contract.
Here's the message, shared on twitter by Adam Conover (of "Adam Ruins Everything"):
"We did it. We have a tentative deal.Over the coming days, we'll discuss and vote on it, together, as a democratic union. But today, I want to thank every single WGA member, and every fellow worker who stood with us in solidarity. You made this possible. Thank you. #WGAStrong

Studios say they are presenting their "final offer" to the #wga today.
since the writers can continue to strike if the offer is poor, the studios may have to come back with "final_offer_v03_final" or "final_offer_v04_final_locked_really"
https://variety.com/2023/biz/news/writers-strike-wga-amptp-contract-talks-2-1235733340/
p.s. this is why I always use version numbers only, and never call something "final" until approved by all parties.

ICYMI, the WGA and AMPTP are back at the negotiating table for the third straight day. Sounds like progress is being made, although no word on how close they are to a deal.
