Today I remembered this story of my grandfather that happened four or five days after my birth:
In 1981, the boat where my grandfather worked was fishing on the coast of Western Sahara/Mauritania when it was captured by the Polisario Front.
The soldiers opened fire and boarded the boat. With the confusion one of the crew cut off the lights. In the dark, my grandfather got advantage of the soldier's distraction, and sneaked into the boat's engine room.
He started the engine and put the boat full throttle. The soldiers were caught by surprise and fell on the deck. Confused with what was happening, the soldiers jumped off the boat and the crew was able to escape back to Portugal.
One of the fishermen was shot and died and others were wounded.
