I spent a lot of time driving thru #WesternNC.
When I was becoming a #RockyTopEngineer, I had a girlfriend from Hickory, NC who attended UNC-Charlotte.
I drove back and forth on I-40 more than the average bear over 2+ years.
When I got a Mini Cooper in Chicago, it made me want to drive on that stretch of highway.
The reason: it’s fun and it runs next to and across various streams, hugging mountainsides.
The quote “the mountains have turned to islands” hit me like a ton of bricks.
