  1. A couple of kilometres out on a kayak.
    Not alone.
Behind me, across the bay, seal song sounded out from the caves.

Not for the first time, from somewhere a butterfly fluttered by, heading towards the shore. For what seems an impossible adventure.

  6. The Photographer and the Cliff

The cliff below the Baltimore Beacon drops a long way, and the only way to show that was to put a person at the top of the frame. Luckily, a fellow photographer was busy doing the same thing I was doing. I walked over afterwards and spoke to him and his wife. They are Swi...

Luckily, a fellow photographer was busy doing the same thing I was doing. I walked over afterwards and spoke to him and his wife. They are Swiss, over on holiday in a camper van. He had the tripod set up right on the edge with the camera low down to capture the heather and gorse flowering along the lip. I never got his contact details, so if that is you, or you […]

  16. The Beacon Through the Gorse

I got down low in the gorse to photograph the Baltimore Beacon, so most of the frame is flowers and wire rather than the beacon itself. A few groups came and went as I photographed the Beacon, but I don't think any of them stooped down low and put their camera in the gorse!

  17. Evening Light on Sheep’s Head

Sunset on the north side of Sheep's Head last night, looking over towards the Beara Peninsula. I didn't expect much colour, but a break in the clouds let the light through. It was gone within minutes, but not before I had shot it dozens of times!

  18. Sitting in the Sun at Bantry Market

The van was parked side on to the sun on a warm February day in Bantry last year. Sun shone for a brief moment and I caught a moment where he looked up from his phone.

  19. The Stones Arches of Ballydehob

The tide was full, and the water had gone completely flat, so the stone arches came out twice in the frame. We were lucky. The weather back home in Blarney was atrocious, with rain falling from cloudy skies.

  20. Enamel Signs and Jugs

He didn't seem too bothered about making any sales. Enjoying the day instead.

  21. Access at Own Risk

The rain was falling steadily as I photographed this sign on the Sheep’s Head peninsula.

Curious about the sign, I looked up The Anchorage and found this for sale page saying it was recently sold, but an archive.org copy from 2019 shows the seller was looking for €695,000 back then.

  22. RE: mastodon.ie/@JasonLee/11650986

Let’s continue here with some 2026 Ballydehob Jazz Fest photos.

The same year (2024) I made this photo which became this cyanotype of Stephanie Nilles (previous post), Thomas Deakin was also over on tour. That time with Bonnie Prince Billy.

Nice having them both back and as my neighbours for the week.
