After this date, several Wemo products will no longer be controllable through the Wemo app. Any features that rely on cloud connectivity, including remote access and voice assistant integrations, will no longer work. "

So, Belkin is killing off the WeMo app at the end of the month, & Apple is forcing the HomeKit upgrade by February 10. We have WeMo smart plugs all over the place & are using an old iPad as our HomeKit hub. A Raspberry Pi with @homeassistant is running it all. We plan on buying an Apple TV to replace the iPad but are waiting for the new models to drop.
We may need to come up with some sort of plan B… 😬

I've been using #Wemo switches in #homeassistant for almost as long as I've been using it. Once I set up Zigbee and Z-Wave, I stopped buying wifi switches and bulbs. Now we see why.
Although my first concern was architectural, your wifi #iot devices require servers to be running. No matter how nice the device, when the company turns off servers the device is useless unless and until there is a firmware hack. Bleh. Local control only henceforth!

Got the email that Belkin are killing off the WeMo cloud & app for their smartplugs.
Local control still works fine though. Easily integrated into HomeAssistant.
Lots of cheap WeMo bits on eBay if you want a local-first smarthome.

#belkin #wemo app to control my light switches has been unable to login for three days with no status message from Wemo nor any news articles. But I did find out that I missed the announcement their cloud service is going offline in January with a less-than-six-month warning. "We got paid, fuck you" I guess. Some can still be used via Apple HomeKit, but I have one that requires the Wemo app.

Belkin just announced that they’re killing their #Wemo IoT cloud next year, leaving all of our switches and so on as e-waste. But owners can enable Apple HomeKit to keep them useful after that date! And maybe Home Assistant will help too?

So #Belkin has killed off #Wemo and now I guess I need to replace their soon to be dead dimmers. Ideally something that supports light bulbs and maybe even outlets too though. I have #HomeAssistant setup but it sounds like I'll need a ZigBee/zwave dongle for starters. I should have started this journey ages ago but I was lazy and what I bought was cheap so ya any advice is awesome. I'll probably crawl through some reddit threads too

Belkin will just cut off any Wemo Model (except for 4 Models) from having access to their servers on January 31st 2026, effectively bricking all those devices, making them unusable. Belkin is going to discontinue their Wemo app and cloud service after 31 January 2026. The devices compatible with HomeKit and Thread will be able to continue working, without the app.

I’ve got 6 #HomeKit compatible #Wemo plugs that I only use during the holidays. Supposedly, they’ll still work after the shutdown, but I’m replacing them.
Does anyone want the plugs for free (just pay shipping)?

And that's why I went with devices I could configure using HomeKit, even though it narrowed the selection a lot.

Considering that Belkin hasn’t updated the firmware since initial release, in spite of multiple security vulnerabilities, this is an announcement about five years after the fact. Overall, a good thing
