  1. Mum and I had a great time going on a tour of the chained library at Wells Cathedral the other day.

    This book belonged to the Newton's of East Harptree in the 1600s and is a Bible in 9 languages (imagine the typesetting!). That was exciting for me because Isabel de Cheddar married into that family and became the first know female churchwarden back in 1496, as featured in Unsung Women.

    On 26th November 1703, the Great Storm was in full swing in Somerset. It claimed thousands of lives, including Elizabeth Kidder and her husband, Richard, the Bishop of Bath and Wells. They were tucked up in bed when a chimney fell through the roof and crushed them to death. (1/2)
