Just watched Abby Martin's new film about the US military and climate change.
This bit really stood out:
At the Kyoto summit in 1997, the US won an exemption that meant emissions from the military would be excluded from the total in any commitments or pledges. Every other country followed suit, making the targets and pledges (even more) irrelevant.
Secondary emissions, from things such as power used by hospitals to treat the injured, or rebuilding work, aren't even included in the calculations.
The US military is responsible for the same amount of emissions as the next five countries combined.
Pretty terrifying on its own, but in the context of today's increasing miitarism ...
Fossil fuel giants attend COP summits. They send so many people that, if they were a country, they'd have more delegates than any other.
100% recommend the film, but be prepared to be furious.

Gotta love capitalism
According to the Institute for Policy Studies, the U.S. military in a single day of war against Iran has spent the equivalent of health insurance coverage for more than 4 million Americans.
Meanwhile, in its hospitals, they abandon poor patients who cannot pay the medical treatment bills.

"When we see exploitation, oppression, gross wealth and desperate poverty, and when we see wars and war crimes and, let's be clear, when we see the genocide of Israel against the Palestinians, we cannot be silent, and we will not be silent."
Ken Loach addresses the crowd at the Cannes Film festival this week.
