  1. I think articles like this one explain a lot how bourgeois economists forgot that the welfare state - including a universal pensions scheme - was created to avoid the constant threat of a global socialist revolution.

With the ascension of capitalism, people who had their own land to grown food became destituted. And so they're were forced to work for a boss with absolutely no control at all of the means of production.

As a way to avoid revolution, Bismarck in Germany and later on the UK implemented the main elements of a universalist welfare state. The trick seemed to have worked because all revolutions in western European countries ended up in failure.

But If centrist governments force their citizens to give up on pensions paid by the State to adhere to private pensions schemes, they will be expelled from power.

The Fiscal Crisis of the State (James O'Connor reference) is real but there can be no true way out of it inside capitalism because public expenses are only going to continue to grow while economic growth is stalling throughout the West. Workers have been tricked but sooner or later they will need to wake up.

In the end, they won't even be entitled to eat crumbs from the edge of the plate because a handful of billionaires will eat everything. Until the final crisis of capitalism.

"Across the EU, 47 per cent of the bloc’s social protection expenditure is spent on old age and survivors’ benefits, ahead of 36.7 per cent spent on sickness and disability and 8.7 per cent on families and children."

  2. "Neoliberalism, as it’s evolved in Finland, has all but negated the possibility for any meaningful or real social progress or of a return to the way that Finland might have existed in the past. Yet the global media imaginary promises otherwise – it torments us with the false hope that another world might indeed be possible."

  3. Italian families are increasingly #POOR.

This is what we should discuss every day.

This and the fact that Italy's plans to increase #militarySpending to 5%GDP will destroy what makes worth living in Italy:

    HealthSystem+Education+Pensions, i.e. #WelfareState

  4. Harry's Last Stand

"I Got Out, Dad" Death Before The Welfare State.

"On this day in 1943, my grandfather, Albert Smith, died.
When he was twelve, he began working in a coal mine dug beneath the village of Barley Hole. He had a hard life. My father remembered him as a gentle soul with a keen curiosity for history, who could play the piano and loved his children."

  5. "When I started this piece, I claimed that poverty occurs when the following four conditions are present:

    1. The national income is distributed using payments to laborers and capital owners.
    2. Capital ownership is very unevenly distributed across families.
    3. A large share of the population is not working at any given time.
    4. Nonworkers are unevenly distributed across families.

One could do more, but I think I have demonstrated this all pretty well using the most recent census income microdata. If this is a correct diagnosis of the problem, then the solution involves flipping one or more of these four conditions.
    (...)
So what we are left with is flipping the first condition and using mechanisms other than payments to laborers and capital owners to distribute the national income. This is called the “welfare state” and it is, as a factual matter, how low-poverty countries come to be that way.

Indeed, if you look at the categories of nonworkers in the graphs above, you might notice that they map perfectly onto the populations that welfare states are designed to serve. In good welfare states:

    - Children receive a monthly child benefit check, child care, pre-k, K–12 education, among other things.
    - Elderly receive an old-age pension.
    - Disabled receive disability benefits.
    - Students receive tuition subsidies, living stipends, and subsidized loans.
    - Carers receive paid leave and home care allowances.
    - Unemployed receive unemployment benefits.

Even the United States has some of these benefits and they work in proportion to their coverage and generosity. We can see this in the below graph where I introduce a bar for disposable income poverty, which counts government benefits."

  6. You could do both if you Tax the Rich, but you won't and so you won't get support for defending Europe from Russia (because I'm sorry to break it you tankies, but Russia is the Baddie) , and you'll lose in every way possible because you're British and shit.
Brits love losers though, and love being losers, it's less effort than being good and smart. Just give up....wallow in shit, 'the British Way'

  10. what's going on is so serious that I feel the duty to do what I've done for the #JA and #WikiLeaks case: search for the truth and inform the public about an unprecedented threat: the destruction of our #WelfareState to proceed with a useless #Rearmament programme (#ReArmEU)
