A big part of the reason I started this was to give people a cool vanity name. What’s happened is the local feed is a tight knit group of people with shared interests. Tight knit, but welcoming. So welcome.

@jaz for me it’s the Venn diagram of former #WeirdCarTwitter people and the kinds of people who like mastodon. Twitter is a big room where things go viral and everyone hears you to a much smaller room.

@DenOfEarth @vulgalour When Elon took over Twitter I wanted to make this space because I think #WeirdCarTwitter and the explicitly LGBTQ inclusive Mastodon were a good fit. I’m really proud a user from such an esteemed instance would fly our colors.

Part of what I like about #WeirdCarMastodon is I feel like these are my people more than say #WeirdCarTwitter. I would be here to talk about everything that’s not cars and talk about music, cameras, computer systems, art, CW political posts, art, sci fi, vintage computing. You name it. These are my people.

This is by far the oldest truck I have ever seen doing any sort of public works. I don't even know what brand it is, probably a GM of some kind.
I love the stubby and purposeful looks. Also, the taillights seem to have been replaced recently with LED units, which gives it a hipster restomod vibe.
It should be living a happy retirement in some museum somewhere!

#WeirdCarBS is really good. It's more like weird car twitter than #WeirdCarMastodon is. I think a big part of it is #Mastodon had it's own culture before the #Twitter #Xodus and #bluesky culture was made by #TwitterRefuges replicating twitter culture. I liek what we have here but it's cool to visit #WeirdCarBS and see some faces from #WeirdCarTwitter.

@ZeKik I was a nobody on Twitter outside of the political gambling world. It;'s kind of weird having 300 some odd followers. I have a bit more pressure about not spamming boring shit. The nice thing about Mastodon is it's more about medium sized accounts than big accounts.
I would take 300 followers over 3,000-30,000 followers anyd ay. A lot of the major #weirdcartwitter accounts had to deal with so much bullshit. -
Our one year anniversary is coming up. I’m not sure when to celebrate. I bought weird.autos on 11/5/22. I got an email from Fedi.Monster that said the server was live at 9:06 am and @dan made the first account on 11/8 at 9:07 AM before I woke up and found out the server was live. For some reason our profiles show November 7th but it isn’t strictly true.
On November 15th @sumo generously sent me $50 to go towards costs.

Put Pop's Truck to work one last time last night before I pull the engine out of it for a refresh. Despite having a wicked knock in the bottom end, the 'ol unrebuilt 350 still pulled a dead 68 Mercury up a steep driveway (about 20 degrees), in the rain with no issue. The granny gear 1st and 4-Lo made very slow, but reliable work of it.
