Faaascinating article on words used to describe lesbians and lesbian sex in the historical record.
It's short, but the shorter version is: OED lies about the frequency and use of these terms, giving the false impression that lesbians are a modern phenomenon when in fact they're right there in the historical record, and always have been.
One of the words in longest use? Just "lesbian."
