🌞 Lots of sunshine, lots of ideas and powerful inspiration:
Our review of the Head in the Cloud Summit is online!🌱 How much CO₂ is actually in our websites? 🤑 Why is salary more than just money? And why do we need more digital sovereignty in Europe? 🇪🇺 You can find these and other topics in our review of the mittwald event in Espelkamp.
Jens Krumm, CEO of +Pluswerk, was also on stage as a speaker on the topic of ‘Money or love – New Pay as a relationship model’ 💰❤️ and provided powerful inspiration and plenty of food for thought for the industry. The complete presentation is available for download in the review.

For each 2 pages Google crawled, it used to return 1 visitor. Six months ago, it was 6:1. Now it is 18:1. For OpenAI it is 1,500:1 and for Anthropic 600,000:1.
This is not sustainable.See https://www.axios.com/2025/06/19/ai-search-traffic-publishers

AI training bots are putting online cultural heritage collections at risk, scraping content for training data. Outages, costs, and ignored robots.txt show the urgent need for sustainable solutions.

AI crawlers take content without sending visitors — just costs, no return.
Search engines gave traffic. AI gives nothing.Ad models are failing.

The 2024 Web Almanac has some interesting reading on web sustainability: https://almanac.httparchive.org/en/2024/sustainability#a-quick-note-on-assessing-environmental-impacts
It’s well worth looking beyond the charts and reading the detailed paragraphs — as noted, charts can’t tell the whole story when it comes to things like emissions originating from device use and “green” web hosting #WebSustainability #SustyWeb

Next Tuesday I'm delivering a lightning talk at the 1st International Workshop on Low Carbon Computing (#LOCO2024), "Running a DIY assessment against the Web Sustainability Guidelines". It's a 5-minute talk about the process I went through doing the @manyfold WSG self-assessment (https://manyfold.app/news/2024/07/12/wsg-assessment.html) back in July.
Online attendance is free (I'm presenting remotely too), so why not pop by? https://www.sicsa.ac.uk/loco/loco2024/

I always wanted to start creating content on the web, but was always hesitant because I thought there were already too many #contentcreators in the #webdev space.
However, since I am on a journey to learn more about #WebSustainability and #GreenSoftware and see how many fellow engineers are still unaware of this practice, I finally started my first blog, https://www.websustainability.org. I intend to inspire others and to share everything I learn along the way.
