  1. @paul This list of single-vendor system APIs reminds me of the 30+ system APIs prototyped in Firefox OS which also failed to become standards in the W3C System Applications Working Group w3.org/2012/sysapps/

I continue to believe that the reason this has never worked out is that a JavaScript API is the wrong abstraction for exposing hardware features to the web. They should be web resources with URLs rather than JavaScript objects. #WebOfThings

  2. On my way to #GPN23 #gpn with a bunch of #WebOfThings projects and a receipt printer. I'm also happy to see Karlsruhe again.

  3. I'm delighted to share that I have been selected for a StandICT.eu Fellowship, with a six month project working on out-of-the-box interoperability on the #WebOfThings.

  4. Personally I would rather that API was a royalty free web standard than a proprietary native mobile API which could be changed or removed at the whim of one company.

WebThings Gateway bridges a range of different smart home protocols to a single standardised interface using the #WebOfThings. webthings.io/gateway/

  5. Last week I gave a talk to the W3C @wot Community Group about @krellian's use of @WebThingsIO for commercial smart buildings. The high level business case, a tour of Krellian Cloud features and a deep dive into lessons learnt using #WebOfThings standards. youtu.be/7FGS10G-YIc?si=mabYUo

  13. Previously, I've held conference talks about #Webthings which is based on the #WebOfThings. It is an upcoming HTTP standard for making the #InternetOfThings more interoperable.

This year I've been experimenting with #IoT via #Matrix. Yes, that's a lot of overhead, but in some cases you may want the ownership of a persistent log that's encrypted at rest and full-featured access control over who can view and edit the state of your IoT.
    I'm preparing a talk for #FrOSCon and the #MatrixSummit.

  14. #WebThings is an open-source Home Automation platform. It's not limited to real devices. You can build a #WebOfThings device for anything.

I build one for a virtual house in the #videogame #CS2D.

  15. I'll be speaking in half an hour (11:10) in the #InternetOfThings room. #FOSDEM2020

Learn how to build a #MozillaIoT adapter to access local devices through the Internet! The #WebOfThings standard used is being drafted by #Mozilla and the #W3C.

  16. Happy to be in Brussels for #FOSDEM! #fosdem2020 #fosdem20

At least three talks will cover the #WebOfThings, including mine about how to write an adapter to bridge your local devices to the web.

  17. @torproject Even if this was not a partnership, the camera should prevent third party access.

The gap between perceived and experienced privacy at home is too big when Terms of Services apply.

I hope the #WebOfThings standard becomes successful in enabling smart homes to be interconnected and locally owned without any clouds.
