  3. I've had a great time at #TechNExt26 this week.

High quality production, some thought provoking talks, and most of all good conversation.

Thank you to everyone who came to my talk yesterday about the #WebOfThings and @krellian's #SmartBuilding solutions.

  5. @paul This list of single-vendor system APIs reminds me of the 30+ system APIs prototyped in Firefox OS which also failed to become standards in the W3C System Applications Working Group w3.org/2012/sysapps/

I continue to believe that the reason this has never worked out is that a JavaScript API is the wrong abstraction for exposing hardware features to the web. They should be web resources with URLs rather than JavaScript objects. #WebOfThings

  13. Personally I would rather that API was a royalty free web standard than a proprietary native mobile API which could be changed or removed at the whim of one company.

WebThings Gateway bridges a range of different smart home protocols to a single standardised interface using the #WebOfThings. webthings.io/gateway/

  24. Previously, I've held conference talks about #Webthings which is based on the #WebOfThings. It is an upcoming HTTP standard for making the #InternetOfThings more interoperable.

This year I've been experimenting with #IoT via #Matrix. Yes, that's a lot of overhead, but in some cases you may want the ownership of a persistent log that's encrypted at rest and full-featured access control over who can view and edit the state of your IoT.
    I'm preparing a talk for #FrOSCon and the #MatrixSummit.
