Absolute Empfehlung!

My former #webhost asked me to #email them about why I had closed out my account. I was surprised. They wanted to actually “hear” what I had to say? They didn't just want some #survey? I decided that I would take them up on it.
What follows is an email where I go off on the complete and utter #enshittification of #WordPress, #wordprespplugins, the #gutenbergeditor and #ai integration.

I still need to rethink my web host.
Siteground is really very good but too expensive and no data centre in Canada. They also use Google Cloud which makes me very uncomfortable.
The WordPress theme I use is resource intensive so I may need to rethink that too.

Why Use a Country-Level Domain Extension?
Using overseas hosting (outside the United States) is a smart move and something we encourage — it can provide greater privacy, legal protection, and sovereignty over your data.
However, hosting alone is not enough.
Even if you host your website (for example, on a .com) in a country like Germany, while your files and database may be safe, your domain name itself can still be subject to U.S. law. Many domain extensions — including .com, .net, .org, .info, .us, and .edu — are governed by U.S. jurisdiction.
Additionally, many word-based domain extensions — such as .social — are managed by private corporations based in the United States, which can still put your domain name at risk of legal or commercial interference. Corporations can also be easily bought or influenced, unlike sovereign nations. Historically, sovereign nations tend to seek to hold onto their sovereignty — even when they are financially broke or fundamentally broken.
Domain takedowns are rare, but the possibility exists — especially in today's unstable political climate. For example, even close allies like Canada have experienced tension with the U.S., and Donald Trump even tried to instruct Microsoft to discontinue services to Denmark, raising the question: What is "normal" anymore?

Any #SysAdmin #Webhost type folks recognise what's happening in this screenshot of an #FTP connection attempt? It will loop this indefinitely. Hosting provider seems to be unable to fix it, or is out of their depth. This is after the webhost did an internal system migration. No change at my end (which worked perfectly before their migration).
According to them, FTP works fine *for them*. For me, it effects all FTP apps, and whether my ISP IP, or any VPN IP.

Namespro.ca appears to be having issues. I am getting intermittent behaviour... sometimes ok, and sometimes the website is offline with this.

I've just finished migrating my homepage from an American to a Japanese host. Many technical problems along the way but the site seems to be loading nice and zippy. Now to begin updating the content and design... #homepage #webhost #server #migration #boycott #USA elikpwilliam.com

The fun thing of having #Ceph with RadosGW/RGW running at home?
I can easily upload some website files, then enable aws s3 website, and point a reverse proxy onto that.
Fastest static hosting of some website. -
Found a solution.
Create a user unit file in /etc/systemd/user, which can be enabled for loginctl linger-users, which just continuously watches on the Hugo content path …
i.e.> systemctl enable --user --now hugo@$(systemd-escape $HOME/wwwroot/domain)
Continuous Build made easy.

Dear Fediverse Administrators,
Please consider relocating your website to a web hosting provider based outside the United States of America.

I get the feeling there is a problem at #siteground #webhost given the VERY long wait time on their chat.

Hey, my favorite* host has an instance! opalstack.social apparently exists. I'm here on c.im, but if I wasn't, I'd give Opalstack's instance a shot.
* as in, that's where my stuff is. For a decade it was on webfaction, and when that got a case of #enshittification I, like many others, followed the devs to opalstack. I don't have a broad knowledge of these things; opalstack works, isn't evil like godaddy, and has responsive, helpful tech folks when you have a probem.

Hey fediverse is wpengine really modifying paying WordPress sites? Does that mean they are now offering free site customization upon request?
