  1. Yang!

  2. I make a feed reader called BlogCat (https://blogcat.org), it is a #Firefox #WebExtension that makes blogging an integral feature of Firefox. For example, right now I'm typing on a sidebar compose window while I browse.

Recently, I started doing #selfhosting and #homelab with #yunohost and set up my own #GoToSocial server which is running this identity you're reading.

Thanks to using a different server than Mastodon, I noticed that status character limits are not fixed. The default value for GoToSocial is much larger than Mastodon default 500 that I hardcoded in.

Now, I patched BlogCat to query the server about such limits thus improving the experience for both Mastodon and GoToSocial and other Mastodon-compatible servers.

Being able to have multiple compatible visions on the #fediverse is what makes it so powerful. Quite happy with this.

  4. I've taken the API server for my slopfarmer #webextension offline because it's been broken for a while and I haven't been working on the project. I'd like to get back to the project so I'll be spinning it back up in my #homelab rather than in #digitalocean since cloud hosting didn't solve the problem of sending #email, and I have a much more robust reverse proxy setup now.

Hoping to pick up the pieces and dig back in to code this week 😁

  6. Adventures in @thunderbird add-on development.

Motivated by a thread I seen yesterday, I decided to create a #WebExtension that would display pkpass files as inline attachments.

I managed to get all the data from the pkpass files and process them, what is giving me trouble is actually getting a `document` that is not attached to a `window` to work with html2canvas.

Like how to screenshot a document which only exists in memory?

    Any clue? anyone?

  7. I wanted to port my feed reader #WebExtension to #Chrome, currently I been shipping it for #Firefox only.

Google's implementation of Manifest v3 and its requirements are bonkers. The whole switch to strange service workers instead of background scripts is very odd.

  8. Do you want to escape algorithmic timelines? Want to go back to #RSS / #Atom ? Don't want a profilic site to take over your blog reading experience?

I made a blog reader for you! It is called BlogCat and it is a #FOSS #WebExtension to make #blogging (reading and writing) a first-class citizen on #Firefox

It is a calm reading experience like FraidyCat and Rad Reader.

    Check it out:

    addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firef

(Oh and it has special features for podcasts)
(plz boost, getting noticed is hard)

  9. Crossed the hump of dealing with the #NPM ecosystem to get unit testing set for my Slop Farmer #WebExtension and finally got the LRU cache implemented so checked non-slop URLs aren't re-checked on the server unnecessarily. This should reduce client bandwidth and save server load too :)

Now I need to start working on adding features to the content script which will allow different actions on search result links without visiting the page itself.

  10. Hi there, here is a new beta version for wallabagger with a lot of changes under the hood:

    - how to install it wallabagger.wallabag.org/betat
    - beta version for Firefox addons.mozilla.org/fr/firefox/
    - CRX available here for Chrome and Vivaldi github.com/wallabag/wallabagge

Thank you for your feedback. 😁

  11. BlogCat can now post threads on Mastodon.

This is my first threaded post:

    dice.camp/@Agarzia/11545746042

Enable it by selecting "split post" in the #WebExtension options and then use a dash by itself in a line to mark where the post should be split.

  14. Yesterday’s rabbithole: instead of doing some tax related administration, I built a Firefox extension to inject some JavaScript to fix some annoyances on the government login website.

Because apparently every existing userscript extension wants to access all data on all websites, despite technically not necessary (Firefox has UI for handpicking website permissions). And I only trust an extreme short list of extensions with access to everything…

  15. Communication between the extension and the API is coming along. If a link isn't found in local storage, it'll call out to the server to check for reports and save those locally for next time.

Still thinking about users and auth, but to get something out into the world I might just use a proof of work captcha to get a token so some trusted beta testers can start making reports ASAP

Or I could just manually send tokens to people...

  16. I'm developing a browser extension to #crowdsource reports of AI slop articles, and to flag slop articles/domains in search results.

The extension itself is started, and now I've set up a database to form the backend with #FastAPI in front.

Trying to get something ready for people to try out and start contributing ASAP because I'm so tired of this crap in my searches.

  18. Made three releases of my #blogging tool #blogcat this week:

    blogcat.org

It provides a calmer experience than many other clients and also allows you to post to microblogging services.

It is a #WebExtension so it integrates nicely into #Firefox

  21. Btw, is anyone running #Snowflake?

Access to the #tor network is even more crucial and gives access to Signal and most of the free web.

Just install the #Firefox #Webextension and make sure WebRTC is enabled (if your browser supports videocalls, it will be enabled).

    addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firef

You can also use #Orbot and instead of enabling a Tor Entry- or Middle-Node, setup a Snowflake Proxy ("Friendly mode"). Proxies are really only used by censored people, so dont fear abuse.

  28. Really happy with the built-in #podcast viewer I built for my #feedreader, BlogCat. Today I added season and episode navigation similar to TV apps and a toggle to autoplay the next episode.

    blogcat.org

BlogCat is a feed reader as a #WebExtension for #Firefox. It can also post status updates and short posts to #Mastodon, #Bluesky, and #Micropub so you can keep up with blogs and websites while also posting and commenting about them. The Web should be a conversation after all.

  33. @FirewallDragons For the first few minutes of you talking about the Bitly story, I was thinking to myself, "I could've sworn that it already does that." Eventually I realized that no, that's Adfly I was thinking of. The story is that Bitly has degraded into Adfly.

If the actual implementation turns out to be accurate to what you read out on the show, it will be trivially easy for a browser extension to automatically and instantly skip you straight to the destination URL. The only question is whether or not uBlock Origin, specifically, will have (or add) the ability to do it.

  38. Been working on my own feed reader called #BlogCat.

It is a #WebExtension that adds lots of blogging related features to #Firefox. I spoke about it in a previous post.

Today, I implemented posting to #Mastodon from it. The #Web is a conversation, your blogging tools should allow you to participate on the blogosphere and not only consume it.

    Next steps: Bluesky and Micropub.

  39. Coucou !

    :neocat_googly_woozy_box: Зачем? А главное - на#уя?

Нашёл #WXT - в нём всё сделано за меня и в 100 раз лучше! "Надо радоваться, не надо напрягаться."
