This needs to be fought tooth and nail. We already do not own the devices and services we pay for. This move towards monopolistic "attestation" will only lock the consumer in tighter.

The ability for the content you're reading via "authoritative" sources to be subtly changed by 3rd parties, whether they be malicious extension writers, ISPs (looking at you, Comcast) or accidental extension changes, has pretty scary ramifications.

Something like #WebAttestation would absolutely fix that, it's just that it would have far, far more negative ramifications. Content changes of that sort would absolutely be possible, it's just that there'd now be only one entity capable of doing it instead of an unlimited number. Which is arguably scarier.
