  1. Opera Air – an innovative web browser that will improve the well-being of users. Opera Air provides the lion’s share of features found in the basic Opera One, with a few exceptions – the new version will not feature tab islands or screen splitting. archiveapp.org/opera-air/ #webbrowser #windows #osx

  2. @drwhax Not everyone is aware Brave Inc. used scams to lure users into enabling their cryptocurrency-as-ad-tracking system. They even replaced links on some 3rd party sites to point to their own cryptocurrency links. This on top of basically being the 'Omarchy' of the browser scene.

I gave a hard No to that when Chromium and spinoffs of Firefox exist.

  3. RE: mastodon.bsd.cafe/@fionescu/11

First of all. Props on your journey with Linux and BSD @fionescu

Second, why do web browsers suck so fucking much at doing simple tasks like translation and/or reader mode.

Firefox would not automatically translate, I had to tell it which language from/to (translation in "beta", even though I downloaded all the languages in settings)

    Safari was like....Romanian? Nah

Brave auto-translated it but then would not show speedreader option

Meanwhile chrome and edge worked just fine

to my surprise Edge handled this task the best, being able to translate and provide reader mode from the little action icons in search bar

    go figure

this is a wormhole I didn't want to go down today but FUCK

  4. «Browser — Chrome installiert ungefragt 4-GByte-Datei für KI:
Die Datei werde von Gemini Nano genutzt und könne nicht einfach so vom Computer entfernt werden, erklärt ein Datenschutz -Spezialist.»

Für mich ein Argument mehr um Chrome nicht zu nutzen. Ich möchte gerne selber bestimmen dürfen was und wie ich es nutze. Doch ich sehe schon, dass dies vielen egal sein wird.

#Mozilla fears wiring an #AI API into #Chrome will make the web less open
#PromptAPI, is already being tested in Chrome and #MicrosoftEdge.
Jake Archibald, Mozilla web developer relations lead, articulated the org’s concerns in a GitHub discussion of the API, which provides a standard way to send and receive prompts and responses from a local machine learning model.

  6. Everyone I know has no idea how to save a bookmark/shortcut of a website. Or that the concept even exists.

It even took me a while to navigate all the different ways using different browsers.

  7. «Firefox Has Quietly Integrated Brave's Adblock Engine:
Back in March, Firefox 149 was released with many changes, like a free built-in VPN, a Split View that allows the loading of two pages side by side, and the XDG portal file picker as the new default on Linux.»

…or/and use and config the @ublockorigin plugin for more security and privacy in Firefox.

  8. There's been a minor update to @Vivaldi released. Included is the fix for the broken app icon that I was mumbling about. I feel bad complaining about it because there was a forum post about the issue that I totally missed when I went looking.

    Thanks, @ruari!

  9. Ok, decided to give the Orion Browser public beta a try, and… Meh, has some promise, but its got a long, long way to go. Honestly for the people complaining about the lack of Linux browser choice, I'd ask why not contribute to or fork Epiphany/Gnome Web.

    So, what's wrong with Orion?
    Oy vey, that's a list…
    Importing bookmarks doesn't work
Installed Bit Warden and uBlock, but neither extension works
Caused the composer to fail momentarily only to come back and freeze.

They did however fix the buttons problem, the open, close, etc buttons didn't work right in the Alpha apparently.

I'd say don't waste time on it.
