The new @WhiteSpiderCLimbing comp wall set is rather fun. Bit of a grade gap between the (softish) 6c to this blue 7a+ (or nails 7a maybe if you have fingers of steel), but all top routes with great movement. This one is no exception with classic @YannGenoux vibes - tough, technical, interesting, progressively harder, and the crux at the top. Didn't feel up to trying this the first session, but did everything easier so now it's time to #TryHard !

Some days, your get-up-and-go feels like it got up and went... But on some of those days, you can still find a little try-hard if you look under the cushions.
3 long, pumpy, 7a tries in quick succession is maybe something of a record for me... Especially with a couple of equally long and pumpy 6c(+) roofs (one on the stal-roof, one in the cave) thrown in. Getting close on the black and the other two definitely go fresh!

Got another session on that cave roof; that's two and a half sessions including the original flash try... Getting close, but T-3 weeks-ish before it's reset. Will I get it? Stay tuned for the next exciting(?) episode.

Another from the "trying hard at White Spider Climbing" series... New comp wall set has lots of goodies to play with and some actually friendly grades for a change! This one's definitely easier than my other project, but equally entertaining, if only for the good air at the end! Thanks to Jon Koplin for the catch and encouragement.

Another classic route from @YannGenoux in classic Yann style; equal parts technical, interesting, frustrating, requiring precise moves, hard for the grade, and harder up top. Probably ought to have tried this one when it went up as those pinches up top are like quarries now... But I was too busy getting shut down on the blue "6c" next to it in humid weather (Also Yann's) 😂
Damn, this feel brutal! I was so wasted by the time I got to the pinches (yeah, doing all the moves on the blue next to it first didn't help...) and that move is soooo big!
Still, feels achievable so I will be back for sendgeance.

Great new(ish now) routes from @EmmaTwyford - all three lines are really fun movement, right from the blue 5+ up to and including the green 7a I haven't sent (yet!). Even the swirly 7b looks try-able and fun. I always find the fortune-cookie pockets on this orange 6c almost exactly the wrong shape for my fingers, but the route is much fun that in this case it just makes it better. Proof positive that @WhiteSpider needs to get Emma in a bit more often; it's been too long since we had a nice variety of Emma's techy routes to play on.

Happy to get this absolutely banging route (strong candidate for current "fave in the building") from Yann Genoux almost completely set with some of my (usually) least favourite holds, the Simpl volumes, which kinda need good body position unless you're super strong (I'm not!)
Took a mo:
Go 1; dogged all the moves
Go 2; pumped out at the big sloper on the penultimate volume
Go 3; pumped out setting up for the dyno and sent in 2 parts
Go 4; missed the dyno
Go 5...
Well worth the effort and so satisfying to send smoothly (apart from the last move...)

Little bit frustrated with my project at the moment, but it's such a good route and so close to my limit (on the "wrong" side) that I'm keeping at it. Probably I'm nuts; there's another new "7a" just round the corner that I got all the moves in 2 sections on my flash attempt... But where's the fun in that? 😂

So I haven't posted a project update in a while... Partly because I've not had the occasion to get on it (read: in part distracted by shiny new climbs), but also because my last attempt was dire. I wasn't going to post this, but then I thought; failing is absolutely part of the process of climbing better, so why hide it? Plus, I guess it's kinda funny? Good spot from Jeremy :-)

Well, didn't try my project at the end of sesh for a change! TBH I wasn't expecting to send (yep, that was probably part of the problem), but I was a little dissapointed with my focus all day and my precision sucked - a bad finger/body position is where I fell (good catch, Shan!). On the up-side, though, my movement was more relaxed and I didn't feel especially pumped approaching the crux, so small wins!
By the way, experimenting with a new font after constructive feedback from @optilude so please let me know if it's more readable!

Not sure if I'm daft, fooling myself, or actually making progress on this beast, but I choose to believe the latter (well, probably the former, too...) Think it might be time for another send attempt - with a good, solid fielder below for that scary whip off the crux :-)

So... Turns out when you do laps across the roof, you can't climb your hardest route afterwards... who knew? Still taking a bit of a win from the try, though.

Little proj update... Wanted to try the moves on toprope so I could work out how to stick the crux after doing hard moves and see if I could send to the top through the crux. After a couple of false starts, success on both counts! Turns out it's a lot easier if you don't look like the Hunchback of Notre Dame when you do the move - engage those shoulders, folks! Done the whole route in 2 parts now, so fingers crossed!

On a day when I had WAY low motivation and energy, I figured, "Yeah, may as well at least see if I can stick that crux move again on toprope... Probably won't even get TO the crux today, but what the heck..."
Turns out it was actually a pretty good day! Just goes to show; climbing is really good for your mood and excercise gets your energy up! (Or maybe that was the adreneline rush from the whip at the end... Excellent catch by Jeremy Donaldson)
