  11. #Transport for #London Freedom of Information release:
#TfL has confirmed it does not hold information on the reporting of safety incidents, near misses, or system failures by #autonomous vehicle operators such as #Waymo, #Uber, and #Wayve, nor on the start dates of their 2026 autonomous ride-hailing trials. Reporting requirements fall under the Automated and Electric Vehicles Act 2018 and the Automated Vehicles Act 2024, which govern vehicle authorisation for self-driving operation. The upcoming Automated Passenger Services permitting scheme, not yet in force, will allow the DVSA, with TfL consent, to issue permits for autonomous passenger services in London.

  22. #Wayve AI Self-Driving System Is Here to Drive Like a Human and Take On #Waymo

Waymo currently employs a hybrid system, which combines AI elements (which have been trained on labeled data), high-definition maps, and hand-coded instructions.

Kendall's “end-to-end” AI approach has a single neural network handling the entire process. This means that Wayve's AI operates without high-definition maps or coded interventions, and learns unsupervised from unlabeled data.

  23. #AI is really grim right now, with people who theoretically should be experts buying their own hype. Look at this system:

    wayve.ai/thinking/lingo-natura

Now recall one of the most basic principles of #LLMs: they always tell you only what they think you want to hear. So is the LLM really explaining the car's reasoning here? Nope. Based on the cars plan, it's saying how it thinks an expert driver would most likely describe the actions in that plan. The idea that thru can use this for debugging the planning part of the AI is scary. Because exactly in those situations that are out of the norm, it will be most likely to give an explanation that's unrelated to the actual way the decision was made.

There is research on making large models more explainable, but this is a self-defeating end-run around that work. And if I can see that as someone who's barely touched LLMs, the fact that the researchers at #wayve can't or won't is really disturbing. Especially in the face of their own self-reported accuracy being 60%.

Sure, I expect the public to buy into the #AIHype, but when experienced machine learning professionals are doing it, that's grim.
