Laws are often designed to enforce a certain way of life. For example, people can physically live in boats, RVs/caravans, tents, under trees, etc. But, in the US, one usually can't get a government ID, a bank account, a job, insurance, etc without a residential address.

US #farmers are rejecting lucrative offers from #datacentre developers, prioritising their deep connection to the land over financial gain.

A quotation from Eric Hoffer

The only index by which to judge a government or a way of life is by the quality of the people it acts upon. No matter how noble the objectives of a government, if it blurs decency and kindness, cheapens human life, and breeds ill will and suspicion — it is an evil government.

Eric Hoffer (1902-1983) American writer, philosopher, longshoreman
Passionate State of Mind, Aphorism 147 (1955)

"An ethics of probability tends to crowd out an ethics of possibility."

"A technocratic approach can also be self-defeating in policy terms. Render the future too concrete and it becomes harder to think about far-reaching structural change. In the language of the anthropologist Arjun Appadurai, an ethics of probability tends to crowd out an ethics of possibility. Moreover, the precision of targets can make failures more glaring, as goals are missed and deadlines pass. This weakens commitment in adversity – a point made by sympathetic critics of a climate agenda centred on “hitting the carbon numbers”. Arguably one of the preconditions of radical politics is an element of imprecision. The anticolonial thinker and activist Frantz Fanon once warned of the “curious cult of detail” that could afflict the scientific mindset in politics, causing its bearer to lose sight of the bigger picture: “Thus, if a local defeat is inflicted, he may well be drawn into doubt, and from thence to despair.”" Jonathan White

Australia's lack of fuel security

"Our way of life
depends upon cheaper oil and fuel coming from overseas, but it does so at the cost of our security and resilience...The thought of not having food in cupboards and fridges or prescription medicines would likely exercise people's minds a lot more than the ill-informed thoughts they had during COVID about toilet paper." >>

A quotation from Bible, vol. 2, New Testament:

«
The Day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then with a roar the sky will vanish, the elements will catch fire and fall apart, the earth and all that it contains will be burnt up.
Since everything is coming to an end like this, you should be living holy and saintly lives…

Our #WayofLife makes it very hard to connect to the very foundations of #life on earth we depend on. We are looking at other inhabitants of the earth as resources, as if we were the owners of the planet; by using them, we deny relations and dependency. We live in cities, away from Nature; our #technology shuts us off further from everybody else. Nevertheless confronted with bad outcomes, we use more technology to "fix" things. #civilization. #climatecrisis

Atheist Mantra

There is no god except my consciousness.
This body and this world are all we have.
Treat others how you want them to treat you.
Do what you want as long as you harm none.
We create our own paradise on earth.
We are nothing after death so live well.

As a rule, if you only create one new problem when solving another problem you are doing pretty good.

Most solutions tend toward exponential problem creation regimes.
