For those interested in the #ballot #dropbox brouhaha here in #Wausau, here is the latest update.
The mayor wanted to install a "security camera" and light for the box to watch for I don't even know what. There has been a payment box in front of city hall (to pay water bills, etc.) for decades at City Hall. But suddenly a similar receptacle for ballots is "insecure."
Amateur political grandstanding that he thinks will get him statewide office as a Republican (our city elections are supposedly not party affiliated.)

Bernarde said she reported #DougDiny’s removal of the box to the DA of Marathon County & the #Wisconsin Elections Commission, referring to a portion of state #law that obligates municipal clerks to report suspected #election #fraud, #irregularities or #violations.
While the investigation is ongoing, she said, the #DropBox will not be available, but voters can deposit #ballots in a box outside #Wausau City Hall that is normally used to collect payments.

#DougDiny said…Wed that he had a “philosophical difference of opinion” w/the city clerk, Kaitlyn Bernarde, over whether it should have been up to her or the City Council to decide whether to install a drop box in #Wausau, a city of about 40k people in #Wisconsin. The state Supreme Court ruling & subsequent guidance from the WI Elections Commission established that this authority rests w/the clerk [& is not in any way subject to some idiot’s *philosophical opinion *].

#DougDiny thought the City Council should have been consulted—something the #Wisconsin Supreme Court did not require in its July ruling granting the city clerk authority — & did not believe the #Ballot #DropBox would be secure. So he walked outside, removed the box & carted it into his office.
His actions, which HE documented w/photos & which The #Wausau Pilot & Review reported, are the latest example of a pattern that began around the 2020 election due to #Trump’s …[#BigLie] about voter fraud.

I found it hilarious that Mayor Diney compared the combining of a city department with a county/city cooperative agreement to "putting a gumball machine in the City Hall lobby."
Poor Doug doesn't know what he is doing and is just pretending to be politician. Unfortunately the politician he is pretending to be is Scott Walker.
