  1. #Morningfog forms when a #night is colder than the day and the #dewpoint #temperature is reached, humidity is then 100 percent and #watervapor #condenses into #water. Water droplets that condense on ground vegetation form #morningdew. Fog and dew are important sources of #moisture for #animals/#plants. V. Carter et al. (2025) showed that this can also benefit #humans, using #fogcollectors around Alto Hospicio, Chile.

  6. #ClimateChange feedbacks lead to surge in natural #methane #emissions
A new trouble spot is in the Arctic, where scientists recently found unexpectedly large methane emissions in winter. And globally, the increase in #watervapor caused by #globalwarming is slowing the rate at which methane breaks down in the atmosphere. If those feedbacks intensify, scientists said, it could outpace efforts to cut methane from #fossilfuel and other human sources.

  7. Two years later, the water vapor injected into the upper atmosphere by the Hunga Tonga–Hunga Haʻapai eruption is still in no rush to dissipate.

This excess water vapor likely adds a small amount to global warming (e.g. ~0.05 °C or less), with perhaps somewhat larger regional perturbations.

  8. #DukeEnergy 's Lake Julian power plant this morning. Very cold, quite dry made the steam (and all the contrails overhead, too) very distinct.

  9. In case anyone is wondering, it has dissipated a bit, but most of the water vapor injected into the upper atmosphere by the Hunga Tonga–Hunga Haʻapai eruption is still there.

Not the most important factor, but possibly a small contributing factor to the weird weather in 2023.

  10. You know how a clear night is much colder than a cloudy one? Water vapour is the forgotten greenhouse gas, and so are clouds,. But they're important:

"What we are observing is the long-predicted #water vapour feedback within the climate system.

As the atmosphere warms, it can hold more #moisture in the form of #WateVapour, which is also a #GreenhouseGas.

The extra heating from #WaterVapor has been on a par with that from increased #CarbonDioxide since the 1970s."
