In a video call from the Southern California facility where he is detained, he finally showed them proof — a plastic bottle filled with drinking water and what appeared to be worm-like creatures.
Carlos Jurado, Parias’ immigration attorney, shared a copy of the video with The Times. In a phone interview, he said no one should drink something like it.
“The saddest thing is that they hunt us like animals on the streets and they don’t even treat us like animals in jails because no one would give that kind of water to their dog or cat,” Jurado said.

I had a moment yesterday where I really had to #checkmyprivilege. Our daughter put too much water on her tooth brush and asked if tap water would make her sick. I explained it's safe here, we just don't drink it straight from the tap as it doesn't taste as good. Meanwhile, many of our relatives have no safe water at all :( . We are indeed privileged in so many ways. It's small moments like these where I poignantly realize it.#waterisahumanright
@anubis2814 a pool, yeah makes sense, but grandma who’s on fixed income taking care of grandpa who’s on dialysis as well as two young grandkids because a parent has been murdered & the other incarcerated trying to decide if she’ll pay her water bill or purchase food, I think #WaterAffordability should be implemented so she can pay an equitable percentage rate & not the same rate amount as the corporations. #WaterisaHumanRight & that’s a typical example of who’s left out
