The well-known Addiesdive AD2037 #chronograph with the orange / black panda dial and VK64 movement. Hard to fault this #watch for $90. Okay, so it has a domed mineral crystal, but for this price: 316L stainless steel, nicely finished case, 100M water resistance -- it's still hard to beat. (Please don't mind my dry skin in the photo.)

So, I know these #watches were panned when they were released. I think too many people thought that it was #Bulova trying to cash in on the #Moonswatch. But, I didn't see it that way, I thought the idea of doing ocean themed #divewatches made a lot of sense. Even the idea of doing them in ceramic with rubber straps that incorporate recycled garbage that's been pulled out of the ocean made a lot of sense.
The thing that didn't make a lot of sense was the pricing. They were priced as if they were Moonswatches, which they weren't. Now, if they had a Precisionist movement, then the pricing would have made sense -- at that point it would have been a bargain.
However, a year later, and things have changed. Bulova has dramatically lowered the prices of these watches, making them much more in line with what they should have been in the first place. So, I picked up the Blue Whale #Snorkel watch to see if I liked it. And, yeah, it was very nice, so I used some discounts I had available and purchased the Sea Turtle and Seagull watches.
To me, these are really great casual, weekend wear watches.

So, I found a watch that is close to a daily wear #watch for me... This Chameri is from Tactical Frog. It features the markers I like (but could be better), dauphine hands (but still could be nicer), a blued second hand, decent 316L case (but could be better finished), a cream-colored watch face (very smooth, but could be something more interesting texture-wise), and a leather strap (I changed the original alligator textured strap for a longer strap to fit me). And It has a 4bps mech-quartz movement. The biggest criticisms are the mineral glass crystal and no day/date complication.
Interestingly, it has 100M water resistance with a screw down crown (unsigned -- which could be better), and a screw down case back. I didn't originally have higher water resistance on my list (50M would be fine, IMO), but it's nice to have 100M.

So, in my quest for my ideal daily wear #watch - I started with the #Seiko SNE525. This watch has a really nice rehaut, nice markers, solar movement, great stainless steel case and watch band. The problems are: the hands more like daggers instead of dauphine, the day/date window is too small and unframed, the day/date isn't color matched (although I think this is likely to be nearly impossible to find unless I find something that is at a higher price point), and the markers are too thin.
On the whole, this is a really nice watch for under $200.... But onward I go looking for my ideal watch.

So, this is a cheap #watch that I got from Amazon... It's an AKnight - a sub-brand from Berny / Benyar. Unfortunately, unlike other Chinese brands (Addiesdive, Paganni Design, San Martin, etc.) it shows itself as being a cheap watch. So then, why did I buy it?
I've decided that I want to focus my watch collection. The plan is to have three primary watches: a daily wear dress watch, a casual weekend/activity watch, and a formal dress watch. From there I will have a few sets of watches (mostly Casio watches) to supplement the main three.
This watch ticks the boxes for what I want on my main daily wear watch:
- quartz (although I'd prefer solar or mech-qaurtz),
- dauphine hands,
- 3pm day/date complication,
- color-matched day/date complication,
- no cut-off Roman / Arabic numerals,
- no lume (IMO lume doesn't work well on this watch style),
- nicely faceted markers (prefer applied markers),
- decent size (36-40mm),
- a nice dial texture,
- available in a few different colors,
- sapphire crystal (although I'm not opposed to mineral glass, depending on the price point),
- 316L Stainless Steel or Titanium,
- nice bracelet and finishing
So, basically, something with the looks of a King Seiko, but with a modern / more accurate movement.
This watch hits everything until you get to the details. The bracelet was absolutely atrocious: hollow links, bad tolerances (rattled a lot), bad finishing, annoying butterfly-clasp, etc. And the finishing on the case is just bad -- over-polished, no brushed surfaces, edges are too rounded, etc. They included lume - although they did it tastefully. Day/date complication isn't color matched to the dial.
The bracelet was the absolute worst. I've ordered a black leather band for this watch, as I will wear it until I find a better watch in this style. For now, I've put it on a single-pass rubber strap, so I don't have to wear that annoying bracelet.
