  2. I was one of the supervisors guiding some of the bigger forest fire protection projects at our place. ( Fall 2024) Boss, in Genie, was not having it with my trim it, don't save it attitude. Like California, we're sitting ducks waiting for a big burn... :(

Update from Angeles National Forest on X: Based on fire activity and weather conditions, the fire picked back up and increased 3 acres. Firefighters are aggressively fighting the blazes on the ground and with aircraft support. Firefighters will continue working through the night to limit wildfire growth.

Several helicopters continue to work in multiple areas around the Topanga Canyon Rd (Fernwood & Wildwood) areas. Tanker operations, including tankers and super scoopers are now working on the Eastern side of the fire in the Mandeville Canyon area.

Additionally radio traffic indicates some helicopters are being diverted to the Eaton Fire (due to critical infrastructure protection needs) but 4 additional type 1 helicopters have been requested to replace them.

Per Pepperdine University - After careful consideration of all of these factors, and with consensus from the EOC and academic leadership, undergraduate and the vast majority of graduate classes on the Malibu campus will take place online through Sunday, January 19. The deans will communicate more specific guidance related to academic programming. The University will modify campus operations accordingly. Students with classes scheduled for Calabasas, West Los Angeles, or Irvine campuses and employees supporting these campuses will receive further guidance from their deans and/or supervisors.

Per UCLA - UCLA will curtail campus operations, cancel undergraduate classes and move graduate courses to remote instruction for the next two days, Thursday, Jan. 9 and Friday, Jan. 10. Our PreK-12 programs — Geffen Academy, UCLA Lab School and our Early Care and Education Programs — will be closed on both Thursday and Friday. UCLA Extension will move to remote instruction on these days.

  16. Damn. My “Watch Duty” app is going nuts with notifications today. There are like 50 or more #Wildfires burning around us on almost all sides. Still well away from the populated #RogueValley center along the I-5, but filling the air with smoke and keeping the tankers flying continuous loops (until the visibility stops them). Tanker base is just ten minutes from me, so we hear them overhead. I hope we get some significant moisture (and no more lightening) from the remnants of TS Hillary. Some of these fires gonna burn til October rains. #Drought #ClimateChange #GlobalWarming #WatchDuty

  17. Fundraiser for #WatchDuty in #Healdsburg coming up in July. (they provide #wildfire information, nonprofit, have a great team of volunteers powering their platform).
